If it wasn't for the "what if's", we wouldn't be able to successfully ignore the "what is'es".

When talking with climate change deniers, I never try to persuade them climate change is real, but how much better renewable energy sources would be for a multiple of reasons, including independence from dependence on foreign countries for our energy and national security.

RC: Thanks. I saw the cartoon at somebody's blog a few years ago. Then when I saw it again on Facebook the other day, I just had to steal it.

MRM: Good point. And the "what is" is dire enough right now, I say hell with the "what ifs."

Luke: I hope that approach is successful. Unfortunately, most of the deniers have been brainwashed and hypnotized by the fossil fuel syndicate, whose lobbyists are determined not to allow their profits to be jeopardized by renewable energy.

It's not very successful, but I had to take a different tact than arguing over something that is not deniable just because I'm talking to an idiot. They don't know, or care about anything except their lies. They don't know history shows us that using the newest technology to spur economic and cultural growth is what makes a country better than other countries. Leading in clean energy would make America powerful and wealthy. Corporations are the same way. The big oil companies could lead the renewable energy future and still keep their position as the wealthy and number one status as the leading energy companies. Whoever leads the renewable energy future will be the wealthy and cultural leader of the world. Just the kind of problem American inventors and inventions have led over the centuries. Making products that apply the latest technology to everyday use and affordable to the average citizen. Look what putting a telephone in every home did for Ma Bell. Look what putting a computer in every home did for Microsoft. A renewable energy source for every home will make someone wealthy and spur full employment. That someone should be America. All we need is the right direction and money to invest in those new products. That's what American capitalism does best.

Luke: I agree, it would make a lot more sense for fossil fuel conglomerates to use their wealth and political influence to get in on renewable energy sources. They wouldn't be able to create fake shortages of wind and sunlight, but it would still be incredibly lucrative for them. At some point, whether it's tomorrow or fifty years from now, renewables will have have replaced fossil fuels. It's not in these oligarchs' own interests to be left standing on the sidelines when this happens.
