Can Donald Trump get a Fair Trial?

Can someone tell me - Just what Republicans gains on healing relationships with Blacks, Women, Mexicans, Muslims, or Foreigners have been all of a sudden ruined by Donald Trump? I noticed none of them came out when he was endorsed by David Duke!

But to say "Gee I was just having meaningful talks with my Housekeeper and my Gardener when that loudmouth Trump had to ruin it with that Judge!" C'mon!

Actually it has come home to roost, ever since the Nixon-Reagan Southern Strategy where they accepted the whole Southern Policy (how many took off and ran over the Confederate Flag empowered shooting?), this has been boiling over and waiting to happen.

It has been often said that the secret to Trumps tell-it-like-it-is success is that he says things they way the common person says it. They don't want to hear long drawn out explanations to Terrorism, Immigration, and Foreign competition, they want to hear Muslims, Mexicans, and Chinese!

Erik: GOP "leaders" are showing their true colors -- without realizing it -- when they condemn Trump for some statements but not others. It's like when the entire GOP jumped on the bandwagon to yell at Trump for dissing John McCain ("POWs are losers who got captured! I like winners!"). It had to be pointed out that none of these Republicans had ever said a word when John Kerry, Tammy Duckworth and Max Cleland -- all of whom were war veterans; Max Clcland and Tammy Duckworth had both lost several limbs during combat -- were slandered and libeled by their GOP opponents.

There's a Facebook meme going around that's something like "If I had a nickel for every Republican who says Trump's behavior is 'unacceptable' and then goes on to endorse him, I'd have enough money to start my own fake university."

The question isn't about getting a fair trial. It is about getting a just trial. Fair is a matter of definition. Just is a matter of law.

Jerry: Trump only considers a trial to be fair or just if the judge fawns and swoons all over him and tells him how great he is.

True, Tom. In fact, that goes for anyone who interacts with Trump. Fair means kissing his ass.

An interesting view from Today's SF Chronicle
Erik:

Selective outrage
I have no truck with Donald Trump, but the keening over his improper criticism of Judge Gonzalo Curiel is overwrought. After all, didn’t we all have to nod in agreement when told that a wise Latina should be put on the Supreme Court because, as such, she would reach better conclusions?
Where was the outrage when the left claimed it was inappropriate for male Catholic judges to decide abortion cases?
Where was the outrage while the left contin- ued to defame Justice Clarence Thomas for not deciding cases the way they thought an African American judge should?
In what city are the residents allowed to believe any longer that white police, judges and juries can fairly assess the criminal behavior of African American or Hispanic defendants?
Racial, ethnic and gender identity politics have infected our justice system for so long that an ordinary litigant (or at least one less un- worthy than Trump) might well be forgiven for speculating that Lady Justice peeks from under her blindfold to check a litigant’s identity before assessing the merits of a case.

Call me dumb, but I can't tell whether the above comment is from Erik, quoting something from Emmett C. Stanton; or whether the comment was from Emmett C. Stanton and directed to Erik. Anyway: There's no denying that "... Lady Justice peeks from under her blindfold to check a litigant’s identity before assessing the merits of a case."

Trump's comments about Judge Curiel are probably drawing a lot more criticism because they go hand in hand with his earlier much more inflammatory comments about Mexicans, immigrants, women...

So what, Anon? Your comment makes Trump's comments no less outrageous, bigoted, or racist.

Jerry: True. As the constant rightwing refrain goes, "But, both sides do it. Both sides are guilty."

It's from me guys quoting from a letter from the Chronicle. He doesn't mention that Sotomayor used the "Wise Latina" quote to indicate balance not referring to her as superior. Nor does he mention the absolute Right Wing litmus test for Judges, far above the liberal test or how they wanted to hang John Rogers for conduct unbecoming a right winger when he voted for Obamacare. Finally how they wanted to disqualify that California Federal Judge who ruled for Gay marriage because he turned out to be Gay, if if only Fundamentalist, Straight, Homophobes, can rule fairly for Gay Marriage.

He also forgets that racially balanced juries are the law!

Erik: I was pretty sure the comment was from you and not Emmett C. Stanton, but I couldn't tell for sure. "...conduct unbecoming a right winger" -- LOL. That's by far the biggest crime a conservative can be accused of -- toe the party line 100% or get out.

Mentioning the fact that someone's ethnicity may make them bias is not racist.
What he should have said is his work with LaRazza and his close ties to the Clintons may make him bias

Just to give you the benefit of the doubt, I Googled "Judge Curiel La Raza." The Daily Caller -- the tinfoilest of the tinfoil hat brigade -- said what you were saying. Snopes debunked it.

If, in fact, the judge is bias, why haven't Trump's lawyers moved to have him removed? Could it be because they have no legal basis for claiming bias?

Jerry: That's exactly it. Trump just wants another Hate/Fear button to push for all of his sycophants. If he was actually worried about bias, his lawyers would be on it like stink on shit.

Jerry/Tom

High priced lawyers are masters of shopping for the right judges. They're probably cringing over Trumps remarks and doing as much damage control as they can.
