Sorry, Union-Busters: Generalissimo Antonin Scalia is Still Dead

The gift that keeps on giving.  Antonin Scalia died so unions can live another day.

Last January the U.S. Supreme Court was champing at the bit to uphold Friedrichs v. California Teachers Associationa blatant attempt to de-fund public sector unions.  A lower court had ruled against the Oligarchs and in favor of unionsAnd the Supreme Court — without Dead Tony to back them up has now issued a one-sentence order that the lower court ruling still stands.

And how about a moment of Schadenfreude for poor old Turtle Head McConnell, whose continuous Supreme Court obstructionism has been all for naught.  (I think it's an insult to turtles to compare them to Mitch McConnell, which is why the linked Urban Dictionary definition of Turtle Head is so much more fitting.)

I love this! It makes me smile to think that all of Scalia's conservatism and all of McConnell's machinations are now MOOT. Having the SCOTUS divided four and four almost guarantees they won't be able to do their usual damage to our rights. YES!

The king is dead, long live the people.

SM: "The king is dead, long live the people." My sentiments exactly. I had no idea the Supreme Court's corporate firewall -- protecting the Donor Class from the unwashed masses -- would crumble like a house of cards when just one of the corporate stooges finally died. Unfortunately I think the remaining four Plutocrats-disguised-as-judges are a lot younger than Scalia and probably won't leave the building any time soon.

What do you call people that don't want to get involved but are first in line to have their hands out when the benefits roll in? Either they should get involved or start their own organizations. They don't seem to realize they just got in bed with people whose real solution is to eliminate Unions totally so that no one gets anything. Where would they be then?

I see no evidence that they ever consider those things.

Erik: I agree -- people who want all the benefits of union membership without having to pay union dues are freeloaders, chiselers. It's ironic that conservatives are siding up with these moochers at the same time they're whining about the proverbial "strapping able-bodied male using food stamps to pay for his steak and vodka."

And the non-union freeloaders are definitely sabotaging their own interests by cozying up to conservative union-busters. A short term gain with a huge interest rate.
