Dow Chemical Grief-Stricken over Scalia's Death

Sorry, robber barons — Mitch McConnell and his fellow prostitutes won't be able to help you this time.

Dow Chemical has been facing a long-standing $835 million class action suit over price-fixing.  The company was counting on the Supreme Court, i.e. the Corporate Five, to dismiss the suit, as per Standard Operating Procedure.  But now that the greasiest sickfuck-est of them all has finally died, Dow Chemical has decided to settle the case.

A Dow spokesperson has announced that the court's current lineup has “increased the likelihood for unfavorable outcomes for business involved in class action suits.”

Robert Peck of the Center for Constitutional Litigation said “I think most corporations facing class actions regarded Justice Scalia as a friend.  He has been a thoroughly consistent vote on their side of the equation.”

Yes, if by “friend” you mean corrupt bribe-taking prostitute with corporate jism smeared all over his face.

All Right!!!  Maybe this will be a new trend.  Let the dominoes start falling.  This could be the start of something beautiful.

In the Spirit of Abbie Hoffman: “Steal This Drilling Permit”

Or you could say Abbie Hoffman meets Edward Abbey a new tactic in the escalating land wars between the Koch/ALEC useful idiots and the other 99% of us.

Under the General Mining Law of 1872 which hasn't changed a bit in 144 years  any person or company can lease public lands for just a few dollars an acre for the purpose of mining, drilling, etc.  But now there's a David and Goliath twist:  environmentalists, renewable energy advocates and members of the Keep it in the Ground movement are starting to lease huge acreages of public land — allegedly for the sole purpose of mining/drilling/fracking [wink].  Damn, I looked all over the place for oil, silver, minerals; and I just couldn't find any.

Author Terry Tempest Williams paid $1,200 to lease several hundred acres in Grand County, Utah.  She made this purchase on behalf of Elders Rising, Canyon Country Rising Tide and other groups whose goal is to keep it in the ground.  She told a reporter:

“What was so devastating was to witness on the centennial of our national parks that lands adjacent to Arches National Park are being sold for $2 an acre...These are America's public lands that are being sold for less than a cup of coffee.”

Let's hope this is just the beginning.  We need a lot more of our public lands to be leased for the purpose of keeping it in the ground instead of Drill Here Drill Now.

The holder of the lease has ten years to either produce something or give up the lease.  After that, hopefully another environmentalist in Kochsucker's clothing can stake a claim to the same property.  And on and on...

You do of course have to actually pay the agreed amount for the lease; otherwise you go to jail for fraud.  [See below for some notable exceptions]

Republicans: “No, the Constitution is NOT some sort of living breathing always-relevant entity. And Neither Are We.”

No wonder the GOP insists the Constitution is just an old dead fixed cobweb-covered item.  That description fits today’s Republican Party to a T.

Robert Reich nailed it in his article titled R.I.P. GOP.

He wrote that the Republican Party has died and has been “replaced by warring tribes.”

According to Robert Reich, these six warring tribes are:

“Evangelicals opposed to abortion, gay marriage, and science.

Libertarians opposed to any government constraint on private behavior.

Market fundamentalists convinced the “free market” can do no wrong.

Corporate and Wall Street titans seeking bailouts, subsidies, special tax loopholes, and other forms of crony capitalism.

Billionaires craving even more of the nation’s wealth than they already own.s

And white working-class Trumpoids who love Donald. and are becoming convinced the greatest threats to their wellbeing are Muslims, blacks, and Mexicans.”

And each one of these tribes is “its own distinct political entity, complete with their own separate sources of funding, their own specific whack-job ideologies, and even their own presidential candidates.  What’s left is a lifeless shell called the Republican Party. But the Grand Old Party inside the shell is no more.”

Justice Antonin Scalia was MURDERED by Obama's Thugs!!!

I KNEW it!!!

The evidence rests.

If you're still not convinced, let Ann Coulter (who's recovering nicely after prostate surgery) remove any lingering doubt:

“The Court was, as it should be, kind of a boring institution for nearly 200 years.  And then, the Left figured out that — not by any Constitutional framework, but simply by the fact that the Supreme Court gets the last word, they decide cases — liberals realized, ‘Oh, shoot, we can’t get Americans to agree with our crazy ideas, but hey, I bet we could get five Justices to agree!’ ”

Oh.  My.  God.

More on the Marco Rubio-R2D2 Meltdown

Sorry to keep beating a dead candidate horse, but:  anyone remember that scene from The Stepford Wives between Katherine Ross and Paula Prentiss?  Dueling robot meltdowns:  “Obama knows what he's doing...” vs.  “I just wanted to give you coffee.  I thought we were friends.”

Here's the coffee scene from The Stepford Wives. (if you'd rather cut to the chase, you can fast-forward to the 2-minute mark).

Chris Christie: Unsung Hero for Outing Marco Rubio

Thank You Chris Christie for outing Marco Rubio at the GOP debate.  Marco Rubio is nothing more than a walking talking algorithm that spews rightwing talking points on cue.  I'd never vote for Chris Christie, but he did America a huge favor by showing millions of TV viewers that Marco Rubio is such a soulless automaton, he gives empty suits a bad name.
