Who Hijacked Our Country

“What Were You Thinking, America?”

This was the question asked by a Canadian citizen in an open letter to American voters.

The day after the midterm election, Richard Brunt of Victoria, B.C., wrote a letter praising President Obama for the falling unemployment rate, lower gas prices, lower interest rates and record corporate profits.  He followed that up with:

“Many of us Canadians are confused by the US midterm elections.  America is leading the world once again and respected internationally — in sharp contrast to the Bush years. Obama brought soldiers home from Iraq and killed Osama bin Laden.  So, Americans vote for the party that got you into the mess that Obama just dug you out of? This defies reason.”

Yes it does.  Wish I could help you.  Perhaps America's low-information brainwashed voters — several of whom are pictured below — can answer your question:

What was America thinking?

It wasn't. Heh!

In contrast to other parts of the nation, Oregon shifted leftward... and it may have also led the nation in voter turnout. 70.9% in 2010, and 69.5% this year? Those are good marks.

Democrats in our state came to the polls, and voted for Democratic candidates and progressive principles. I wish the rest of the country had done the same.

There are too many millions of Americans being lulled to sleep, either by right-wing media or by the rest of the media being too afraid to call things as they are.

Aw c'mon Snave, you should check out California, where Democrats swept the ticket.

Of a course a Socialist Country that totally depends on their Government would love another Socialist like Obama..Heck they love Kenyans!

Snave: I'm glad Oregon had a high turnout rate. I don't think Washington's was as high, at least not in Clallam County where I live. Clallam is still pretty red compared to the rest of Washington. A local county commissioner race was pretty disappointing -- a progressive/populist candidate lost to a hardcore teabagger. But the rest of the state's election results went pretty well.

Erik: The 3 Left Coast states and a few northeastern states are an oasis of sanity in the Red Desert.

Erik is right, most of California is with the program. And so is a good portion of Washington! The part of Oregon I live in is red as red can be, but thanks to the Willamette Valley and a few other areas in the western part of the state, we have managed to stay blue.

I know what you mean about the baggers, Tom. The guy our corner of the state elected to represent us in the state House is about as far to the right as you can get, and he has vowed to butt heads with people in Salem. I would rather see him succeed, but to do that he would have to compromise, and he would have to play well with others... which he has no plans of doing. His opponent was a very good candidate, a moderate Democrat. But I'm not sure there are too many moderates left out this way... lots of foaming at the mouth, Gadsden flags, etc. Sigh...

I just don't get this at all. People are all for the democratic policies but they vote for the GoOpers. Where is the disconnect with these morons. I'm ok because I live in the people's republic of California, I feel bad for the people that are having to live under idiotic, theocratic rule these days and how badly it will affect them. Look at Kansas as but one example with the Brownback leadership. Revenues going down to deficit status more and more every day but people still voted these idiots in after complaining about them. I want to say that you get the gubbmint you deserve but these folks sure don't deserve what is going to happen to them. It will probably end up the rest of us in the blue states will have to fork out more coin to the ones in the redder color.

Snave: From what I understand, the eastern/inland parts of Oregon, Washington and California are generally conservative. Clallam County is somewhat more liberal than most of eastern Washington, but for a coastal region it's pretty red.

At the rate the country is turning to the Right, I half expect the Gadsden flag to replace the stars and stripes.

Jess: I don't get it either. It's like the whole country got afflicted with Stockholm Syndrome.

The teatards will get the government they deserve, but the rest of us are stuck with that same government, and we don't deserve it.
