Using Drones to Spy on Factory Farms

All Right!!!

The Factory Farm Syndicate keeps bribing state legislator-prostitutes into passing Ag Gag laws, making it a felony to report animal cruelty or unsanitary conditions.  Bring on the drone surveillance.

Will Potter, a journalist, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a drone investigation of factory farms.  On his fundraising page, he said:

“In my new project, I am going to use new investigative journalism tools to help expose what some corporations want to keep hidden. With your support, I will lawfully document factory farms in multiple states using aerial drone photography...Will a drone allow us to see the scope of pollution caused by these industrial operations? I’m going to find out.”

It took him just five days to meet his $30,000 goal.  He plans to turn his drone surveillance findings into a book and a documentary.

Some of the commenters at the end of the linked article seem to disagree over whether a large farming operation owns the airspace over their property.  I say go for it.

Ag-gag laws are like making it a crime to report a burgular in your home. They make no sense.

Y'know

The weird quirks in this case may turn into one of the largest Privacy cases in recent history, it could settle a lot of arguments about owning air space and what law enforcement can do with drones etc.,

My Money says: If it gets up the legal ladder, look for him to lose on a very narrow interpretation (i.e. Tailored just for him)

Jerry: That's exactly what they are. No sense whatsoever.

Erik: I can't imagine any court deciding that a property owner controls the airspace above his/her property, without that ruling also applying to private aircraft, hang gliders, ultra-lights, etc. Then again, you never know what "reasoning" the courts might use. Money talks.

"Money talks"

If only that was all. Unfortunately, also money buys politicians. Money makes laws. Money interprets laws. Money avoids laws. Money buys justice. Money buys injustice. Money rules!
