Newest Scientific Research: Fracking is Completely SAFE

Tree-huggers and other Enemies of Freedom — you can stop your hand-wringing.  The latest scientific findings have proven that fracking is safe, sugar is good for you, and “climate change” is a hoax dreamed up by socialist thugs who want to steal your property.

These are just a few of the scientific facts brought to us by the American Council on Science and Health (ACSH).  Research conducted by the American Council on Science and Health is totally objective and impartial.  Now, uhh [ahem] their unbiased scientific research happens to be funded by the fossil fuel industry and the Food Syndicate, among others.  Move along.  Nothing to see here.

Like most slippery rightwing organizations, the American Council on Science and Health does not disclose its corporate donors.  Fortunately, Mother Jones has obtained financial documents that confirm the obvious:  the American Council on Science and Health is funded by the industries that have a stake in the organization’s “scientific” findings.

The largest donors to the American Council on Science and Health include Chevron, Coca Cola, Monsanto, McDonald’s and the tobacco industry.

The executive director of the American Council on Science and Health, Dr. Gilbert Ross, says the group doesn’t disclose its donors because:

“The sources of our support are irrelevant to our scientific investigations.  Only science-based facts hold sway in our publications, even if the outcome is not pleasing to our contributors.”

Here’s that grain of salt you were looking for:  Dr. Gilbert Ross was once convicted of defrauding New York State’s Medicaid program of $8 million.  He lost his medical license and served 23 months out of his 46-month prison sentence.

The American Council on Science and Health was founded in 1978 as a “counterweight” to the environmental and consumer movements.  The group’s website says:

“ACSH protects consumer freedom from a variety of unscientifically based activist organizations—such as the Natural Resources Defense Council, Center for Science in the Public Interest, and Environmental Working Group—that use 'junk science' and hyperbole about risk to promote fears about our food, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, and other environmental and lifestyle factors.  Their agenda is to limit or dismantle many technological achievements that contribute to consumer choice and good health.”

The American Council on Science and Health was founded with a $100,000 donation from the Sarah Scaife Foundation, which also donates to the Heritage Foundation and the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

Birds of a feather.

If they do that here it will be right on the San Andreas fault, so you will say goodbye to much of my beautiful state. The tar sands at the Monterey shale formation is huge. According to some it's about 300 billion barrels of really shitty stuff. But but, it's safe, fracking doesn't cause earthquakes or so they keep saying.

Jess: Sorry, but those 300 billion barrels of oil are more important than your state. You'll have to move :)

Randal: I knew that.

Since all the money lately seems to be right wing money. Some of us may wondering if this group is hiring?

Erik: LOL, good question. They'll probably just do what banks and other large corporations are doing -- sit on their loot, not hire anyone, and continue to warn Congress not to tax or regulate the Job Creators.

Some are quite excited about America becoming the world's leading oil producer.

This disappoints me in a way, because I wanted to see us get away from the oil habit, regardless of where the oil is produced -- here, or there.

I suppose if we produce our own oil, we aren't as dependent on oil from the Middle East. If there's a way to supply our own needs until we find another source of energy that is environmentally friendly and can be mass-produced, then maybe that's the idea? I guess I'm just not sure I see our country as having the will to pursue other sources of energy.

Control the world's dominant source of energy, and you control the world.

But there's a pretty big environmental cost to pay here at home for becoming the world's largest producer, for whatever reason we're now at that level...

No way Snave

The Domestic Oil is very dirty and will go more for Synthetics and Lubricants and have nothing to do with our energy prices. Plus as someone pointed out earlier, the fracking line is going straight to Texas which means it will be shipped out and sold to other countries, just like the majority of the Alaskan Pipeline.

Snave: Yup, the "Saudi America" syndrome. I think it sucks. The "Drill Here Drill Now" teatards would love it, but it would wreck the environment and just keep delaying the inevitable switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.

Erik: True, but for some reason the Fox News crowd can't or won't grasp that simple fact. You can keep telling them 'til you're blue in the face that this oil will be exported and won't bring our own prices down, and they'll just keep reciting their talking points.

Ah, well. If it isn't going to go toward serving our energy needs... and if it isn't going to stay here at home... then PFFFFFBLLTTTT!!!

Whatever they have to do make the dollar, eh?
