Computer Glitches, System Crashes: the Rollout Indicates a Complete FAILURE!

The system wasn’t ready on time.  There’s been delay after delay; glitch after glitch.  WTF is the problem?!?!?!?

So much for all the hype about this great new online interactive tool that will help millions of Americans obtain coverage.  It’s a disaster!  The system is likely to crash while you’re right in the middle of typing in your personal information.  Or maybe you’ll be lucky — the site won’t crash; it’ll just take you three hours to do a simple computer task that should only take a few minutes.

These computer SNAFUs are not a good sign.  Obviously, this big bloated bureaucratic boondoggle is doomed to FAIL!

I’m referring, of course, to the rollout of George W. Bush’s Medicare Drug Plan in 2005.

You could just as easily have been referring to the ACA. People are losing their company provided insurance because ACA was supposed to be available but... it isn't and these folks are caught in limbo with no coverage at all. Insurance companies are canceling hundreds of thousands of policies and pushing people into the Marketplace ACA plans that provide more benefits, but cost more money. It does not look good.

But the glitches will be fixed, and I believe that ACA is a good thing for most people. I know it's hard right now, I had to do it too and it was frustrating. But a lot of people who never had the option will be able to have coverage. I gotta think that's a good thing.

The health care I had before wanted to more than double my premium, so I shopped for an exchange (Washington state is an exchange state) and it worked.

Good luck to everybody -- and I'm glad we're doing this.

What did it take Medicare... something like four years before they ironed out the kinks?

And I am going to guess that Social Security didn't start off without any difficulties.

There will be problems at first with the ACA. But it will get going sooner than later. When it does, I believe people will like it. It is not great, but neither does it spell the end of America, the beginning of the "end times", etc.

Republicans are so eager to have the ACA NOT work that they will blow up just about anything about it that can be perceived as negative and say "we told you so". And true, this rollout problem is a negative... but I believe it will only be temporary.

Best to get it fixed ASAP and up and running full blast, so it can work.

It will all work out. The Republican critics are so despicably transparent.

I do hope Mr Charleston is being sarcastic in his comment.

No you don't lose the coverage you already have contrary to the rethug talking points. There are no "death panels", but one thing is certain, the IRS is going to have a swell time sorting all this out. There position is that they won't go after anybody in the foreseeable future until it gets ironed out.

Mr. C: Social Security and Medicare got off to rocky starts as well, plus Dumbya's Medicare Drug Plan that I was writing about. I hope the ACA snafus will get straightened out in time.

SM: I'm glad you got a better deal through the ACA marketplace than what your existing carrier was offering. I think this is happening in a lot of cases.

Snave: Yup, Republicans are praying that the ACA will be the "train wreck" that they keep saying it is. Mostly, they're scared shitless that the public will love it and the Koch useful idiots won't be able to repeal it.

Jim: Despicable and desperate.

Demeur: I think some people might have lost their existing coverage because of the ACA; I'm not sure. But there are lots of cases, like Screamin' Mimi was describing, where someone's current carrier jacks the premiums way up, practically forcing the policyholder to shop around for another carrier.
