Mark Sanford Defeats Elizabeth Colbert Busch. But on the Bright Side…

Yes it sucks that South Carolina’s braindead voters elected Mark Sanford (R—Disgraced) to represent them in Washington DC.  But what kind of victory was this?  Mark Sanford’s district has been solid Republican for over thirty years, and Mark Sanford is a household name in South Carolina, for better or worse.

Sure he’s a slippery little spoogebucket, but he’s the devil they know.  This race was sort of like a 300-pound wrestler fighting a 100-pound opponent.  If the 300-pounder lost, the humiliation would be unbearable.  And if he won, well whoopee shit, you just beat up somebody one third your size.  OOOOHHHH!!!!

And some people are saying Mark Sanford will do the GOP more harm than good by winning this election.  He’s “damaged goods.”   A Washington Post column says in part:

“A Sanford victory puts that guy in the House Republican Conference. That means that not only do the late-night jokes start again but, more importantly, every GOPer in the House and Senate will be asked whether they support Sanford and what they think of serving with him.”

Works for me.

I should find this unbelievable, but sadly I don't. With a Congress everyone agrees is moribund, with Senators all bought and paid for, and with brain-dead people voting for brain-dead candidates, what chance is there for change?

It's fun watching the GOP make everything Obama's fault. By the way, he could grow a pair himself.

I know, not all South Carolinians are whackadoodles, but this suggests to me that whackadoodles could well be a majority in that state. :-)

And they must think it's just fine and dandy so I now resign my SC birthright.

I've thought about doing it so many times previously, but now it's obviously so ridiculously overdue that I don't feel the need to apologize to my honorable deceased relatives there who wouldn't have believed what the citizenry lets into its drawing rooms let alone votes for now.

Sorry, Dad.

but, more importantly, every GOPer in the House and Senate will be asked whether they support Sanford and what they think of serving with him.”

They cannot get away from the hypocrisy now in the GoOper ranks. This is what they draw and their supporters well, I have nothing to say about that. Good thing is he cut Robme's lead in half so maybe if ECB runs again she will have more name recognition. He also goes to court tomorrow for the tresspassing charge. Wonder if he will be sworn in for that or his house seat first. Exactly why gerrymandering needs to be a thing of the past. Let the districts be sorted by a committee of citizens from the state.

@Susan, you don't need to do that. There are whackadoodles in every single state. We have Darrle Issa, Tom McClintock here in CA if that is of any worth to you and I won't give up my CA birthright ever. Well I say never, but that is only till my husband gets that attorney assignment for one of the Spanish soccer teams (preferably Real Madrid) and I can move there :)

SM: Agreed on both things. The GOP is a bunch of braindead people voting for braindead candidates, and Obama could stand to grow a pair.

Adam: If Sanford could get elected in that district, I guess any Republican could.

Snave: Yup, it looks like whackadoodles make up a majority of S. Carolina, or at least that one district.

Suzan: I think Jess is right (her comment is below yours). Even liberal states like California and Washington have their share of loonytune wackjobs.

Erik: That Christian tactic of groveling and begging for forgiveness works, unless the person is gay, uses birth control...

Jess: Too funny, going to Court on a trespassing charge and being sworn in to Congress -- a typical GOP combination. You're right, it's a perfect case for getting rid of gerrymandering.

okjimm: That's poetic that he'll be fighting tooth and nail for his re-election next year.

This took place in South Carolina, where you could probably get a rabid dog elected if he had an "R" after his name.
