President Obama Speaks More Bluntly Than Ever

Whoa!  Don’t get him started!

I’m not sure who the President was referring to — probably the red states — when he said:

“It is like you are in a time warp.  It is like you are looking across 50 years into a country that has missed 40 years or 50 years of progress.”

OOOOHHHH!!!!  A little harsh, but if the shoe fits…

After that — presumably talking about the medieval nightmare that awaits this country if we don’t make some changes soon — he said:

“If a country can’t feed its people effectively, if it can’t make anything of any use to anybody, if it has no exports other than weapons…If it can’t deliver on any indicators of well-being… for its people… then you’d think you’d want to try something different.  There are certain things that just don’t work and what they are doing doesn’t work.”

OUCH!!!  But hey, it needed to be said.  If we are ever going to bring ourselves out of this downward spiral, it’ll take this kind of brutal self-assessment to get us motivated.  This is a good beginning.

I have noted several times now, how similar we've become to the DPRK. And with the God-man worship that the Rushpubliscum Party practices, their transformation into the Korean Workers Party id more or less complete.

I'm not sure we would see pictures of Mitt Romney everywhere on the sides of buildings and on billboards, statues of him in the streets, etc. But I could almost see it happening with Santorum or Gingrich. Heh...

Good post, Tom.

Comparing the people of N. Korea who follow right along with Fearless Leader pretty much regardless with the people of certain areas of the U.S. or maybe with people who hold particular ideologies? I don't think the people of N. Korea know any different. The same might be said for some here in America who have allowed themselves to be brainwashed and led around by their noses.

Lisa,

Again, what's the point of this comment? You are so offensive it's almost laughable.

Lisa, in what part of the country do you live?

The Virginia thing you provided the link for is disgusting. Where I live, no such teaching like what you linked to exists. I know, because I am a teacher. I never mention political matters in my teaching, and the only ones in our district who do are Social Studies teachers, and they mention it objectively as in historical contexts.

For you to suggest from one example that all public school instruction is similar to what is found in your link? Such generalization from specific examples is at best narrow and extremely simplistic. So is trying to illustrate one's point with only the most extreme examples.

If the public schools failed you, it was because your schools did not do enough to foster your critical thinking skills. Shame on them.

Hey I was merely replying to this "offensive" statement

I'm not sure we would see pictures of Mitt Romney everywhere on the sides of buildings and on billboards, statues of him in the streets, etc. But I could almost see it happening with Santorum or Gingrich. Heh...

And Snave I didn't realize that singing "yes-Yes we can-can was teaching critical thinking skills, which I noticed you didn't comment on that either..

I personally now of teachers who praised Obama to their students until one mother of a student ha her daughter read his autobiography and ask her what it was that she felt would make him a good president. She said Mommy I can't find anything.

Lisa, as usual, you are setting back the cause of equality for women at least 250 years. You are, sadly, simply incapable of engaging in any conversation without injecting some stupid something or other you learned about on the "Hannity" show the other day. I don't know if you got ignored as a child (probably, since wingers don't place much value on women,) or you're simply too addled to understand how stupid you appear to everyone, or both. My inclination is to believe that it's a little of both.

Now, please.... go back to making delicious dinners, and let intelligent people talk about the world.

So there you have folks, another personal anecdote from Lisa that hits the mark. Of course, the mark is up her ass, but hey, she tries.

Lisa, you do realize that you have become a parody of yourself, do you not?

Incidentally, Tom, thanks for posting this. We need more blunt, stick it to them and twist talk from Obama.

Good one!

A good beginning, yes. But Obama apparently didn't call out conservatives, Republicans, tea partyers and libertarians by name. Subtleties might cut it in Harvard debates. In American politics, not so much. You won't find the squawking heads of the radical right failing to call out those they disagree with by name.

Obama needs to say this, but be nail-hit-on-the-head direct about it when he does. Otherwise, it's too much like the impression a person makes when they won't look you in the eye while talking to you.

Sure, Lisa, I'll gladly comment on it. Singing Songs Of Obama is not teaching critical thinking skills. I don't approve of overt political teaching in public schools. It's a shame you have to use isolated incidents from which to develop your opinions. Is your dislike for public schools based on what you read in Mallard Fillmore?

Nor do I approve of some of the songs I hear our local music teachers doing with the students with all the mentions of God. Neither religion nor politics has any place in public school teaching. If this comment of mine offends you too, by all means comment on it. I am sure you will, probably by providing links that prove... well, what you want them to prove.

Calling us "good little comrades" doesn't win any arguments. In fact, once I call you a name, you win the argument. This is why I do not call you names. It works the other way around too, so it looks like we win this one. Thanks!

Jadedj and SW, you're right. This kind of talk is necessary and it is just a start. As the campaign season progresses, Americans will be presented with an extremely stark contrast between the two parties, with little or no middle ground... and the comments made by the candidate will reflect this. Expect some nasty fireworks.
