Public Perception: YES, Republicans ARE Deliberately Sabotaging the Economy

For months — OK, longer — it’s been obvious that Republicans in Congress were deliberately sabotaging any possible chance of an economic recovery.  And it seemed like nobody else could see it, outside of a few people who frequent “alternative” news sites.  Every time Obama or any Democrat would try to stimulate the economy, they'd get blocked, obstructed, straitjacketed by the “Party of Jobs.”

And it seemed like nobody was making the connection.  I just felt like grabbing the American electorate by the lapels and screaming “Hello!!! Can’t you understand this???  Wake UP!!!

And now the public HAS waken up.  In a survey in Florida, respondents were asked if they thought Republicans were “intentionally stalling efforts to jumpstart the economy to ensure that Barack Obama is not re-elected.”  49% answered Yes.  39% said No.  Of the voters who identified themselves as “Moderate,” 59% said Yes.

And again, this is Florida; not exactly a liberal state.

In another survey, this one nationwide, about half of the respondents agreed with the following statement:

“President Obama is making a good faith effort to deal with the country’s economic problems, but the Republicans in Congress are playing politics by blocking his proposals and programs.”

Congressional Republicans:  We see you.  The sausage factory doors have been flung open.  The stench is unbearable.

Democratic strategists:  You’ve finally got a winning issue here.  Start hammering away at it, and keep on hammering and hammering again until Election Day.

People may know who is doing the obstructing, but they will still vote for those idiots anyway, which is shameful when they know who is fucking things up. What surprises me and I mean really surprises me, which it shouldn't, people know the pugs are doing this but media is always about congress doing this that and the other as far as obstruction so they paint eveyone with the same brush. They hardly ever get it right, that it is republicans are the ones doing all the obstruction.

I saw somewhere this morning, Oompa Loompa man saying that his job is to make congress work and he is doing that. Um no, no yer not, when you are only working part time and the only thing you are doing does not create jobs. From This Week on Sunday here is Lord of orangeness talking.
President Barack Obama has been urging Congress lately to get to work on helping the economy, most recently calling out Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and mocking the House for voting on approval of the phrase "In God We Trust."
According to the speaker, though, Congress is operating accordingly.

“Listen, the founders gave us a committee of 535 people," Boehner said in an interview aired Sunday on ABC's "This Week." "Frankly, it was designed not to work. My job is to make it work. And it is working."

Next year they will work even less according to a calendar I saw on the great orange satan Dailykos. Americans will work 258 days next yr and congress will only work 109 out of those days. Couple months with no work whatsoever and some where they work only 8 days the whole month. I think they need to get part time wages and oh by the way, since you are part timers you don't get benefits because hey that is what most Americans have to deal with in part time jobs. **Jess smacks down her own self, for that last part crazy talking**

here we have a GoOper doing a survey, to see what his constituents think are the most important issues. Notice anything missing from the list of things? If you say jobs, you would be correct. Every last one of the gOoPers talked about jobs, jobs, jobs to get elected and so far the only job they have created is a lawyer to fight DOMA. http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal/2011_11/when_republicans_literally_ign033331.php

Hmm it cut me off, probably because I went all Chatty Cathy on this post :)

anyway here is the ither part, McConnell said his only job is to make certain PO is a one termer and he has been saying that since inauguration day if I am not mistaken. When asked they say, oh no we want to help the country but the mean liberals are asking for 0.7% tax increases on the wealthy and we cannot have that so screw it we just will take our ball and go home. I swear it gets harder and harder everyday, for me, to look at political news because it is getting truly depressing the way things are going and it's only going to get worse next year when the fight really begins for the White House.

Agreed, Jesse, it's getting pretty tough to stomach all the idiocy.

Tom, thanks for these links. It does indeed show that if the Dems play it right, they'll easily be able to portray the GOP as the villains. And if they are successful, Dems + independents will beat the GOP.

I still like to think about the "coattail" effect. If Obama starts to build ANY kind of momentum, the GOP will be shaking in its collective boots. All those idiot "tea party" members in the House should not forget they are incumbents, and that Congress has the lowest ratings in its history. 8-)

This is encouraging. But it hasn't been put through Republicans' inevitable 3-D process yet: denial, distortion and distraction. If the kind of numbers you mention hold up over several months, smart GOP backers would do better to buy more stock in Chinese and Uzbeki-beki stan stan companies than sink their money into Mitt "If It's 2011, I'm Against Health Care Reform" Romney's campaign.

I remind the group that in 2004 the Public felt Bush and the Republicans weren't doing enough for the economy, but reelected him anyway. Fraud aside, many voted their fears and put Gay marriage and hidden terrorist over their jobs and savings.

I just hope all these feelings turn into votes next year.

What does that have to do with your wet dream heroes destroying your own country?

Sometimes your stupid is too much for me to try to dumb myself down enough to decipher.

The reason congress has low ratings is by design. Obama puts through bills he knows won't pass and blames the republicans.
I think the person you should be disappointed with is the president. He is the one playing politics with the economy.
They have many people fooled into thinking it's the republicans hut because many people don't follow politics they don't about any bills the house proposed because Obama has the bully pulpit and he has people right where he wants them. Dumbed down or creating havoc on our streets.
Except those die hards who worship at his alter and will give him a pass to overwhelming the system and dividing the country.
The good news is more people are paying more attention than they did in 2008.

Jess: Thanks for the links. Those leeches should definitely be paid part time wages with no health coverage, just like any other part time worker.

There was also a story over the weekend showing the bills and resolutions that actually got passed by the House during the week. Not a single job was created, but they passed dozens of earth-shaking resolutions about restoring "In God We Trust" and other crucial matters.

Snave: This definitely gives the Democrats a winning issue. It'll depend on whether they make use of it, or whether they manage their usual trick of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

SW: No doubt the Republicans will try to spin their way out of this and blame it on the liberal media.

Erik: I certainly hope the Republicans don't find another hot-button hate issue for the 2012 election. Gay marriage doesn't push the hate buttons as much as it used to, and I think the economy will drown out most of the other "family values" issues.

Anonymous: Your shoes must be drenched.

Demeur: Tralfamadore.

You mean ex-Speaker Blinky lied when she said ObummerCare would produce 400,000 jobs. I'm shocked! Per the CBO, it will actually lose 800,000 jobs.

In the Senate, all the Republican senators have signed onto Senate Joint Res. 10, the Hatch-Lee Balanced Budget Amendment. It protects the taxpayers, forbids courts from ordering tax increases in the case of an imbalance and holds revenues to 18% of Gross Domestic Product.
In the House, there is a similar bill, House Joint Res. 1, sponsored by Rep. Robert W. Goodlatte (R.-Va.). If mated with the Hatch-Lee bill, this will produce a serious and responsible constitutional amendment to the states.

I would think that debt is what is going to kill this country not a balanced budget. Guess who really does not want a balanced budget, they just talked big in 2006 and then did nothing.
