It’s Perfectly Logical to Take Government Handouts While Simultaneously Ranting Against Government Handouts

Once in awhile I go surfing through some of my “favorite” rightwing blogs. It’s entertaining in a sick sort of way (what’s that say about me?), plus “Know Your Enemy” and all that. Afterwards I sit there feeling kind of dirty, and thinking “Why do I keep doing this?!?!?”

I found this yesterday at an unnamed unlinked site:

“I am sick to death of idiot liberals and stupid pundits making a big deal out of Republicans who rail against big government somehow benefiting from government services…It’s both inane and indicative of the fact that liberals just don’t get it; it is not government that conservatives oppose, it is big government that is at issue. The fact that the left has no clue as to the difference classifies them as first class morons. One can support Medicare, Social Security, and even some subsidies that are designed to encourage beneficial economic activity and still oppose Obamacare, FinReg, card check, and heavy handed interference in our schools from the Department of Education. There is no hypocrisy.”

[sigh]

(Incidentally, both of those above links are worth checking out.)

The same blogger also got into a writhing pantytwist when this columnist pointed out that a large part of Rick Perry’s “economic miracle” is the result of an expanding military presence in Texas, plus a lot of jobs that were made possible by Obama’s dreaded stimulus package.

Anyway, that was today’s glimpse into the teabag mind (or is that an oxymoron?). Now, aren’t you feeling sort of dirty?

Aside from special programs like stimulus, most of the red states routinely receive more federal dollars than they pay in in taxes. Yet, to hear their poor, oppressed consuhvative citizens bitch and moan, you'd think they were being impoverished by the big, bad gummint.

Your example blogger says he/she opposes government that's too big. Meaning, I gather, too big to drown in a bath tub.

And this person calls others morons.

Supporting "Medicare, Social Security, and even some subsidies that are designed to encourage beneficial economic activity" are what liberals do. Those, in fact, are the very activities that conservatives are trying to do away with.

Their stupidity has become more than I can bear. As soon as I hear a talking point that I know came out of the ass of a fat dope addict, I go on the attack.

An "expanding military presence in Texas"? With a would-be successionist running that state, this does not bode well. 8-)

I'm not sure how somebody who doesn't like "big government" or government "interference" can like socialist programs like "Medicare, Social Security, and even some subsidies that are..." That kind of stuff just makes my head hurt.

The following will show where money is being spent on what, and by the looks of it, Obama is not the big spender everybody says he is:

They sure are getting a lot of mileage out of that term "Obamacare", aren't they. Well... it isn't really costing us all that much now, is it?

If there is truth in this chart, it looks to me like if we get out of the wars and get rid of the Bush tax cuts, we can fix a lot of things.

SW: That's true and thoroughly documented, the fact that the red states cost more tax money than they contribute. Unfortunately millions of Americans still manage not to know this.

Dave: Their motto seems to be "my subsidies are good, yours are comminist."

Jerry: It's the usual smoke and mirrors from the Right. "Aw shucks, we're in favor of Social Security and Medicare; it's that OTHER waste we want to trim."

JR: Rightwingers' stupidity is even more unbearable when they think their opponents are stupid.

Snave: Hmmm, hadn't thought of that. Texas seceding, and enforcing their secession with a huge army.

Thanks for the link. It certainly doesn't back up the Right's talking points, does it.

Snave, that Ezra Klein column is excellent. I wish I'd had that link awhile back when I was trying to bring our conservative friend T. Paine into closer proximity with reality.

Yeah...Gubment should be just big enough to get the fucks what suits them. Kinda like their religion.

And Perry? Pffft. Fuckin' idiot. As a blue minority in Texas, I've written him a number of times over the last few years. I reserved my harshest criticism for his suggestion of secession, which I told him was extremely irresponsible for him to be suggesting in his position.
