Republicans Don’t Really Want to Reduce Spending

If they did — here’s a $53 Billion dollar savings staring them in the face.

House Democrats tried to recoup $53 billion worth of subsidies and tax loopholes from the five largest oil companies. Every single Republican (hereafter referred to as the GOBP) voted “No.”

For some odd reason, during the vote all of the Republicans had their pants around their ankles and oil lobbyists’ dicks up their asses. Coincidence?

OK, so you can’t expect a prostitute to vote against her pimp.

But that’s not all. Republicans keep pretending they’re all about business and investment. Apparently they aren’t familiar with a few Business 101 expressions like “you have to spend money to make money” and “return on investment.” Anybody?

Republicans want to eliminate $600 million from the IRS’ budget (and an even larger cut next year). Hellooo!?!?!?!?

For every dollar the IRS spends auditing — and collecting from — tax cheats, the IRS brings in ten dollars. That complicated multi-syllable term again (since we’re talking about Republicans here) is “return on investment.”

Rep. Jose Serrano (D—NY) said: “It makes little sense to cut the agency that collects revenue.”

And last but not least — today’s Open Mouth Insert Dick award goes to Haley Barbour:

“I’m glad we got us a colored boy in the White House. That’s why so many good ol’ inbred boys got up off the couch and went to the voting booth last November.”

Now, now, corporate welfare is watcha call non-discretionary spending. Besides, as everybody knows, only the little people and librools must sacrifice, since they are to blame for everything gone wrong.

Know what they could do. Start taxing some of those churches that love to be involved with the political process. Oh yeah, I was reading somewhere else today that some of these megachurches bring in 8.5 billion a year tax free. I'm only linking to Holte's article because the link in hs article isn't working for me for some reason.

Hell if they just taxed at 10% that is a metric shitload of money right there that could go to, oh let me think, funding for useless abstinence programs the churches are all bent about. It would be a win win situation. They get to spend their money on useless programs that don't work for shit, say they are funding them and we taxpayers don't have to pay for said stupid programs that don't work. Think of the children.

Robert Reich had an excellent piece on class war today and how these spineless democrats need to get the message out. It's well worth the read.

Tom

Haven't you learned by now?
A Tax break is NOT the same as an expenditure and a Fee is NOT the same as a tax.

Keeping that in mind, everything the GOP is doing makes perfect sense.

These guys are going to have one hell of a tough time getting re-elected in a couple of years. They really are overreaching, to the point that soon when they begin to talk about cutting things like Medicare, Social Security and K-12 education, independent voters will leave them in droves.

From an article at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41876558 re. "ways to reduce federal spending":

"The most popular: placing a surtax on federal income taxes for those who make more than $1 million per year (81 percent said that was acceptable), eliminating spending on earmarks (78 percent), eliminating funding for weapons systems the Defense Department says aren’t necessary (76 percent) and eliminating tax credits for the oil and gas industries (74 percent)."

Also, what Jess said. Right on!!

For Republicans, what it comes down to is whether the oil industry is made a big, contributing source of funding to ease the burden on middle-class and working-class citizens or continue as a big, contributing source of funding for Republican pols.

No contest.

Not only would we save by cutting oil subsidies, the amount of oil consumed would decrease because oil execs wouldn't be using it as lube on their congressmen ;-)

No surprise at all. Look how hard they fought to make sure billionaires didn't have to part with even one extra dime.

The Republicans don't believe in balancing the budget, the believe in eliminating taxes altogether.

If that means gutting the federal government, sure. If it means hamstringing the government's ability to collect revenue, all the same.

Dave: It'll build character if the little people keep sacrificing for the Important Ones.

Jess: Thanks for the links. Robert Reich always has excellent ideas. Unfortunately, taxing the churches and carrying out Robert Reich's advice aren't gonna happen. The Powers That Be will see to that. Great ideas though.

Erik: Taxes and civilization -- the 2 things the wingnuts hate the most.

Snave: I hope the Republicans are signing their own political death warrants for 2012. Those survey results are encouraging. Unfortunately the only survey Congress listens to is what their donors and lobbyists tell them.

Jack: Thanks for stopping by.

SW: You're right, no contest.

Carlos: LOL.

JR: Everything they do is of, by and for the wealthiest 1%.

Randal: Those guidance counselors are full of shit.

Thomas: Yup, those are their goals -- gutting the federal government and hamstringing the IRS' ability to collect revenue.
