South Carolina: Out of the Frying Pan, Into The Fire
As contemptible and pitiful as Mark Sanford is, he might be replaced by somebody even worse.
This article is about the Far Right’s mass pantytwist over Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize. As you’d expect, it’s the usual spewing of a bunch of dunces who couldn’t find their way out of a one-room apartment. But in a sea of knuckledragging inbreds, one particular mutant stands head and shoulders above the rest.
South Carolina Rep. Gresham Barrett wants to be the next governor. This was his response to Obama’s Nobel Prize (here‘s another link):
“Congratulations to President Obama on his prize. I'm not sure what the international community loved best; his waffling on Afghanistan, pulling defense missiles out of Eastern Europe, turning his back on freedom fighters in Honduras, coddling Castro, siding with Palestinians against Israel, or almost getting tough on Iran. The world may love it, but following in the footsteps of Jimmy Carter is not where America needs to go. Hopefully, this surprise award will give the President cause to reevaluate his current course.”
OK, hold it, back up a minute here. Out of all the retarded spewage in that quotation, one particular mouthful of shit is louder than the rest: “Turning his back on freedom fighters in Honduras…”
What???
Let’s see, a democratically elected president gets overthrown by the army, and that army is now redefined as “freedom fighters???” DUUUHHH!!!
Yes, back in the good old days, Honduras — like most of Central America — was ruled by a rightwing dictatorship, handpicked by the United States to carry out the ideals of Freedom. But those days are gone now, hopefully forever. And it’s time for America’s oligarchs — and the gap-toothed small-forehead eyes-too-close-together simpletons who worship them — to move on.

My sentiments, and observations, exactly!
Foreign policy to a South Carolinian is talking to people in the next town, the time span between losing the civil war and LBJs Civil Rights Legislation, forcing them to honor the Constitution, took a tremendous toll. Approximately 100 years to fester hatred for, not only some of their own people, but for everything Yankee. It might take another 50 years to get it all out of their system. Meanwhile the country has put up with their 19th-century ramblings.

But they keep electing the most Godawful politicians. I don't know if the Civil War will ever be over as far as the South is concerned.
Well, if there was one person who could be so wrong on every aspect of US foreign policy, it's this guy. And of course, surprise, surprise, he's a Republicant.
I'm starting to wonder if these kind of Republicans will eventually build spaceships and go searching for their own redneck planet to colonize. Dealing with the rest of humanity is just such a hassle!
The Rushpubliscums have worked for at least the last 30 years to make this country into a right wing dictatorship. Jesus wants it that way, you know.
If the generals continue to rule Honduras, Barrett belongs there.
It's almost as though South Carolina, Georgia and Texas are vying for an award: No. 1 21st Century Confederate Throwback State.
If you've never seen it, the award plaque shows a brass monkey with its head up its butt, the better to shut out unpleasant realities of modern life. Things like equal rights for racial minorities, Democrats on top in Washington and logic and science taking precedence over superstition, ideology, theology and propaganda.

Have you ever read "Confessions of an Economic Hitman"? I read it last year and it changed my outlook on international politics. It's the first thing I thought of when I saw the "freedom fighters" reference.
The South is a good place Tom, the difference between North and South Carolina is amazing, in more than just geographic beauty, but the dippos S. Carolina keep sending to represent them is no coincidence.

J: That sounds like an excellent idea. If they don't go voluntarily, we could employ "spaceship therapy," comparable to the Greyhound therapy that some cities use for getting rid of homeless people.

I haven't heard of the 21st Century Confederate Throwback State award, but the states you mentioned (and probably a few others) are all deserving of it.
Carlos: I haven't read that book but I read an interview with the author a few years ago. Very telling. For decades the international bankers have been doing to third world countries exactly what American banks are doing to their customers: Encouraging and tricking them into going deeper and deeper into debt so they can have them over a barrel and keep squeezing them for every cent they'll ever have. There's a reason that the Third World hates the West.
Holte: South Carolina is the only state I've never been to. But I've found nothing but friendly people in the rest of the South and in Oklahoma, which probably has the most dimwitted politicians in the country (and that's saying a lot).
There's a bit of info that didn't quite make the news on Honduras. Zelaya was in the process of changing the country's constitution to make him the leader for life. That's why they threw him out. Imagine if Bush had tried to do the same thing here. As it was Bush just ignored most our constitution.
I guess South Carolina has gotten the politicians they wanted seeing how they placed last or near to last in things like health care, life expectancy, etc etc.

I read both the "Hit Man" books and Tom posted a thread on it over a year ago (right?). I recommend everybody read it as it will change the way you think on how the US (and Europe) conducts it's foreign policy.
Coming into a 3rd world country and "forcing" them to sign agreements for their natural resources that leaves them a small percentage (usually giving it to a ruling dictatorship or a few elite families) and ignoring all environmental and safety laws.
Failure to do so and the American people are told Military Action needs to be taken against this "communist dictator" and troops are sent in to enforce those "contracts"
Variations of this type of deal is the cause of our dealings with Iran (the Shah), Panama (Noriega and the change of the canal treaty), Ecuador (that Chevron suit) and Venezuela.
I originally supported Chavez because Venezuelan people got very little for their oil, he distributed more to his people. Then he got drunk with power and has declared himself king.

Demeur: I haven't really followed the events in Honduras, so you're probably right about that. I know some Latin American governments are too powermad and/or too far to the left; but they're trying to make up for decades of being America's colony. It sounds to me like that dipshit from South Carolina is just longing for those days when America was king of the world, and every other country addressed us with "Yes Master."
