Stunning Victory For Dimwitted Shrieking Minority

Yaaay! Let’s hear it for the brilliant teamwork that derailed the majority. Thanks to a few wealthy shadowy PR groups and their reliable gangs of Robo-Thugs — Socialized Medicine will not be darkening America’s doorway.

Insurance lobbyists have thrown hundreds of billions of dollars — and thousands of Rent-A-Drones — into the battle against a government-paid health insurance option. And it looks like they’ve won.

Never mind that the vast majority of Americans WANTS government-paid health coverage.

When did the Democratic majority become so paralyzed? Didn’t they win a few elections in 2006 and 2008? A lot of good that did.

You’ll remember that when George W. Bush took over the White House in 2001, he had barely squeaked in. It was probably the closest presidential race ever. Al Gore won the popular vote. And the electoral vote count was so close, the Supreme Court finally had to install Dumbya in the White House. (Something about Dumbya’s father having appointed a few of those Supreme Court justices…) The Senate was something like 51-49 in favor of the Republicans. And yet, with this razor-thin margin, the Bush juggernaut immediately started steamrolling over the entire country as if they had the biggest, most sweeping mandate in history. Coming Through!

Eight years later, Obama wins the White House by a landslide, both houses of Congress are heavily Democratic — and what have we got to show for it? All we’ve seen so far is the Democratic majority cowering in fear of the party they just defeated.

Now remember, these Democratic “leaders” already have Socialized Medicine for themselves; they just don’t want the rest of us to have it. Let’s see if their own government-paid insurance coverage would pay for a spine transplant.

Which makes one wonder, are the Democrats pussies or do they legitimately fear violence.

There's no other explanation, except possibly that both parties are the beholden pawns of huge dollar contributors and corporate interests. But that would be silly.

It's official, the Dems are pussies. The news is making it look like ALL of America was dead set against a Government plan which is NOT true and Obama red the tea leaves and threw up the white flag.

Co-Ops wont work!!!!

I heard a report from MSNBC's Chuck Todd about the middle of last week in which he said, in effect, that the fix was in. The White House let slip something indicating they considered Max Baucus' bill was the administration's bill — the one Obama would support. That bill, of course, pushes cooperatives as the public option.

That's a little like pushing half a watercress sandwich and a glass of water as dinner for a hungry kid.

This is disgusting. Obama needs
a harsh, heads-up lesson in who his friends aren't.

It's pretty discouraging for sure.

In case you missed it, a few days ago, this is what Republican asswipe Bill Kristol had to say about healthcare. Fucking stunning.

I'm so disgusted with the whole bunch of them and I've already fired off scathing emails to the White House and my state reps.
Fat lot of good it will probably do but I could write and scream in the privacy of my own home and relieve some of the tension. :)

Republicans got out their check book and bought the argument on 'Health Care Reform', they own it and it is not for sale. They have cornered the market on why everything about reform is bad.

They say 'death panel' so the dems talk about death panels. They say 'socialism', so the dems say the public option is 'not main element' of reform. Rebuttal after rebuttal.

The only way the dems can cheapen what the republicans own, is by pressing hard on the issues, such as, without reform, health care is going the way of Wall Street and General Motors.

Yep I'd say they were bought and paid for by the medical establishment. But who could blame them. Would you flip off your boss and do the exact opposite of what he told you to do? Nope if we want change in this country we'll have to change the way elections and candidates are financed.

It's embarrassing. A for-profit insurance company will now be expected to self-regulate? It's like telling a mugger the government won't stop him and protect his victim, but that he should really look into his heart before he makes his decision.

I'm actually not as upset over this because I knew from the start that such a plan would NEVER get passed. Healthcare industry lobbyists simply have way too much influence in government affairs and contribute so heavily to political campaigns that it would have been virtually impossible for anything to be passed that would threaten their business.

Its sickening to see this happen especially since many Americans are too stupid and naive to know that they're really getting screwed in the end.

Thomas: I think they're just pussies. If they're worried about violence they can hire extra police and security guards. And yes, all politicians are afraid to cross the corporations that financed their election.

Ricardo: It really sucks. A few thousand dimwits go out there to protest because some Astroturf organizer told them to, and the media makes it look like these assholes represent the majority.

SW: I like your description of co-operatives. I sure hope that isn't what we get stuck with.

Carlos: Yup, it's discouraging. Kristol is a total asshole.

Rockync: This is the kind of thing that gives credibility to extremists (Right and Left) who think the Democrats and Republicans are the same party, and all of their "arguments" are just staged to fool the public. I don't think it's true, but sometimes I wonder.

Holte: That's exactly it; the Republicans keep defining the issues and the Democrats fall in line. They need to be reminded that they won the election. They need to start framing the debate and defining the issues.

Demeur: I keep hoping that at some point, public opinion will trump those huge corporate donations. Dream on, I guess.

PITS: Yup, that's exactly what it's like, expecting a for-profit insurance company to regulate itself. Talk about the fox guarding the henhouse.

Bob: I see your point. I was hopeful that the government option would prevail, but as soon as I saw yesterday's news, I realized "what was I thinking?"

A spine transplant indeed.

This is very frustrating.

I was hoping that if a public option wouldn't go through, there would be at least some kind of good first step made. That could still happen. But given that the Republicans don't want Obama to be able to claim victory on ANYTHING, don't look for a single positive change to be made without a huge fight from the knuckledraggers.

What I dread most of all is the GOP starting to label Obama as a "lame duck president". How soon is THAT one going to start? They will be labeling anything except the successful passage of a public option as a defeat for Obama anyway... Once they start the "lame duck" meme and get it ingrained, we can look forward to someone like Eric Cantor, Bobby Jindal, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, etc. in the White House. This is because the GOP controls public opinion in our country.

Why do the Democrats allow the GOP to frame debate after debate? It has become the Dems' modus operandi: let the other guys frame the national debate, then be constantly on the defensive and as a result take a beating in the press.

Even if those GOP leaders screwing things up for the country are very much in the minority, they are a minority that controls much of what goes on in America to begin with, and has a LOT of America's money.

It sure would be nice if the media pointed out the fact that these yokels have socialized medicine during every single presser. "Sir or Madam, how does one become such a hypocrite? Is there a school?"

The bottom line is that the average American is too undereducated about the current healthcare system nor the aspects of public plans in other countries to make informed decisions and opinions. Thus the GOP likely realizes that any Bullshit they spew will more easily be believed.

I was listening to NPR today. There was an interview with a health system administrator in Great Britain. A number of Republican speeches were played back for him- one about how Senator Kennedy is lucky he lives in the US because in the UK he would not recieve treatment due to his age. The other was a conservative sponsored commercial about how that an elderly man in the UK was sad because after a pre-determined cost of $22,000 had been reached for his treatment, he would be cut off.

According to the UK admin, these were both outright, atrocious lies. Yet we all saw those rallys- with planted protesters- railing against these very things.

Thus the ignorant public can be fed just about anything. And they will believe it.

Snave: Unfortunately I think the Right is just loving this "victory" over Obama and a government option. I wish he'd grasp the fact that the wingtards will hate him no matter what he does. If he gave the rightwads everything they wanted, they'd still be screaming "commie" and "he was born in Kenya."

You're right that the Democrats are always on the defensive, since they keep letting the Republicans frame the debate. I hope they'll learn sometime, and start taking the reins.

Randal: I think Obama should suspend Congress' health benefits and tell them they'll have the same coverage the poorest American citizen has. I think he could do that; that's what Jon Edwards was pledging to do if he got elected.

Bob: That's it, there are just too many uneducated gullible people out there. And they're a gold mine for these Astroturf organizers. All they have to do is issue a set of talking points, and they know that millions of drones will go out and recite them.

I wonder if there's any sort of legal action that British health care industry could take against these lies. I suppose technically it isn't libel or slander, but it sure is sleazy.

They are definitely pussies. And I frigging HATE that word.

I"m not afraid of violence. Reckon I can go beat the shit out of a few teabaggers without getting tasered by the cops who are on their side?

Bee: I hope these health care rallies don't get more violent, but the anger keeps building up on both sides. And I'm sure getting more pissed off every time another one of Obama's programs gets derailed by a few thousand Rent-A-Goons.

But I'd be careful; those cops are getting more taser-happy all the time.
