“Obama Has Already Failed”
It must be nice to live inside a huge bubble, totally shielded from the outside world. Disappointment, finding out you’ve made a bad choice or a wrong prediction — these painful realities never happen inside Wingnut World ™.
Come and join Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh and the other delusional Man-Children in their little fantasy world, “with trees and flowers and chirping birds…where life is beautiful all the time…”
When you’re living in Wingnut World ™, whatever you want to be true — becomes true. All you have to do is announce what you want to happen, and it happens. Wishes are horses.
Not too long ago, Rush Limbaugh said about President Obama “I hope he fails.” And so — this is the Wingnut World ™ version of the Make-A-Wish Foundation — Newt Gingrich came walking up to little Rushie, patted him on the head, and announced that Obama “has already failed.”
And that’s all there is to it. See how easy that was? When you live inside your own little bubble, reality never gets in the way. The sky is whatever color you want it to be.
After a hard day of creating their own fantasy world, it was time for Rush and Newt to have some fun playing in the sandbox. And after that — fingerpainting!

Republicans know failure when they see it because they have failed so many times themselves. The Contract With America, the permanent GOP majority, Bush/Cheney......
All this attention to Gingrich is ludicrous. The man is half of a set of movement-conservative has-been-speaker bookends with Tom DeLay. He was probably the incompetent template for incompetent President George W. Bush. Neither Bush nor Gingrich has what it takes to successfully govern a roomful of heavily medicated senility cases — a fact proven by these turkeys themselves in high positions of public responsibility.
In other countries, incompetent failures like Gingrich and DeLay are lucky to get to leave office without being thrown in prison or put up against a wall and shot. In America, they keep coming back for more time in the public spotlight, chattering like magpies.
We suffered with them in office. We're still suffering the expense and other consequences of their wrongdoing and incompetence in office. Why is it too much to ask that the corporate media IGNORE these no-good SOB's?
How can we ignore such comedy? Cheatin' on a cancer-stricken wife, all your past sins washed away by a Catholicism Magic!® starter kit.

I just finished the book I mentioned earlier: " The Age of Anxiety". It really brings to focus the tactics of the Republican party over the last 50+ years, which has been to rely more and more on a sort of values based assertion. Their whole angle has been to make audacious statements that go along the lines of: " We cater to real, church-going Americans". Such a statement is a mere setup. Anyone arguing against "real Americans" would instantly be seen as anti-American.
In addition, the McCarthy era introduced the notion to the mainstream that liberals, "Pinkos", and commies were all of the same stripe. The very term Liberalism became a negative term. It was also the first time that the press was labeled as having a liberal lean.
Looking back prior to the McCarthy era, the Republican party was actually far more liberal than today. There was partisan politics of course. But McCarthy re-branded the Republicans into a more extreme right group.
Ever since then, the divide in the US has grown and has created divisions in class, regions, and religion. Much of this again is attributed to the notion and amplified awareness of "values". Thus the whole direction of the Republican party has relied very heavily on casting themselves as the party that represents an overly-asserted, "righteous" base of "true Americans".
Here's the only problem: Things have changed. I have this feeling that most Republicans assume that their base of voters are predominantly white, extremely religious, and basically living a 1950's style life that you'd find on the Andy Griffith show. But recent reports show that a broad cross-section of America is increasingly less religious. I personally know few people my age- both Republican or Democratic- who actually go to Church or other religious centers of worship. Additionally, the US is better connected and keenly aware of global issues. That would suggest that the world Republicans think their voters lives in has changed and that they will need to come up with a different angle versus simply being the voice of "true Americans" because their idea of what a "True American" is becoming less common and more fractured and diverse.
Lew: Yup, failure is something they're very familiar with.

The Right doesn't control Congress or the White House any more, but they're notorious for stealth candidates and slippery tactics. They need to be closely watched.
The one positive thing about these outbursts from Gingrich/Palin/Limbaugh is that every time they preach to the choir, it goes all over the Internet and gets rehashed on thousands of blogs and YouTube videos. For every person in the Republican "base" that agrees with them, there are probably ten people who are laughing, fuming, shaking their heads and saying "Look at this shit. Can you believe this?"
Randal: Gingrich could probably make more money as a comedian. He'd be knocking them dead on The Daily Show and SNL with his impersonation of a demented wingtard.
Bob: Good point. Like the saying goes, generals are always fighting the current war with the tactics they learned in the previous war. Republican strategists have spent 50 years perfecting their stereotyping and word-association tactics, and they've got it down to a science. Unfortunately for them, their "science" only applies to the America from 50 years ago up to just a few years ago.
Older white males -- the main rightwing demographic -- are becoming a smaller percentage of the population. Republican manipulators might again develop a set of slogans and soundbites tailored to younger, minority and less religious groups. But by the time they get their new "science" perfected, the demographics will probably have changed again.
Republicans might have to actually start campaigning the old fashioned way: coming up with workable solutions to the problems that people are actually concerned about.
He means that the President failed the wingnut litmus test rubrick:
1. Are you Caucasian?
2. Would you like to make love to Ronald Reagan's corpse?
A no on either is an automatic failure.
Thomas: LOL. And the scariest thing is, millions of Americans would probably answer Yes to Question #2.
I'll make a prediction (no, I'm not psychic. Not very, anway). I think the republican party is going to split down the middle, and that might come relatively soon. Eric Cantor has already tried to start the process, it seems, with his "plan for america' or whatever the hell it's called. And oooooh, I can't wait.

Bee: Eric Cantor's "plan for America," -- gee, can't wait. It's probably just a prettied-up version of Gingrich's "Contract on America" fifteen years ago. And we know how that worked out for us.
The sooner that party splits up, the better.

And yes Carlos, yes, my cats will CRAP upon the GOP, and mightily!!! Mackie, even at his ripe old age, can still create some of the stinkiest feces on the planet. Republicans, prepare for his wrath!
I would love to see the GOP split. Sooner or later before the whole thing becomes a total parody of itself and completely collapses (and I think it's about 75% there already), a few brave souls will concoct a sort of "Sir, have you no sense of decency" moment that will embolden moderates within the party. And hopefully embolden them enough to split away from the mindless pack.

I could see the Modern Whigs rapidly gaining members as the GOP becomes the Great Obsolete Party. I predict that the "religious right", welcomed so warmly into the GOP about 30 years ago, will prove to be the party's undoing. The fiscal conservatives will have had enough of the social conservatives, and will tell them to go screw themselves.
Thing is, this new party would probably attract some moderate Democrats, or maybe pull some people who were driven leftward by Bush-Cheney back toward the middle.
A three-party system? Who's to say "it can't happen here"?
Snave: I sure hope the GOP splits up soon. The moderates and extremists seem to have lost whatever common ground they once had.
I took a brief look at that Modern Whig link; I'll have to look again later. I guess there's the danger of them competing with Democrats for centrist voters, but that's OK too. I just want the neocons and Biblehumpers and Ayn Rand wannabes to get marginalized and driven out of the mainstream.
