Kevin Martin: Douchebag of the Year

We knew exactly how it was going to happen, and it happened exactly that way. The FCC — oblivious to millions of letters, phone calls and e-mails begging them not to — has gone ahead and voted in favor of greater media consolidation. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin thinks there's been too much diversity in the media. His solution is to have just two or three megalomaniacs controlling everything we read and listen to. (I thought they already did.)

Kevin Martin you're a flaming douchebag. You're a motherfucking son of a whore who should have been shot at birth. Eat shit and choke on it. Hope you get an AIDS needle in your Christmas stocking.

As you’ve probably guessed, Heartattackfuck and his dopey sockpuppet are standing firmly behind Kevin Martin’s plan to strangle the media.

Twenty-six senators — Republicans and Democrats — had already written to Martin, warning that they would "immediately move legislation that will revoke and nullify the proposed rule." These twenty-six senators include several powerful Republicans and all four Democratic presidential contenders. This issue needs to be front and center in the 2008 election. If you listen to the radio, watch TV or follow the news, this FCC action affects YOU.

This is a bipartisan issue. Several rightwing Christian organizations and the National Rifle Association, plus a lot of liberal and non-political groups, are bitterly opposed to the FCC’s attempts to strangle competition and diversity.

Bush has already threatened to veto any bill that attempts to override the FCC’s decision. Congress must be willing to attach this FCC override as an amendment to every — EVERY — bill they send to Bush.

And now, a public service message: Beware of Child Molesters!

The outrages just never end! Today it's the top story in the MSM, so at least that's something. Surely this time there will be enough votes to override a veto?

Candace: Yup, it's an outrage all right. There might be enough votes to override a veto, since a lot of conservative groups are against this media consolidation.

The outrageous violations of our rights and freedoms are neverending. I am beginning to really believe that monkeyboy has no intention of ever leaving office. Lock and load, folks, we may have to fight our way through this one!

Rockync: "Lock and load" -- yup, it might come to that. I don't know the first thing about guns, but if our government keeps going in this direction I might develop an interest.

Congress must be willing to not be cowards, so good luck with that. It's disturbing to see our nation doing everything the fucking Soviets did during the Cold War. Sure, we did to an extent, but fuck, this is just insane. And it's funny you say that, Tom, I never ever ever ever ever thought I'd see the day where such a thought would enter my mind, you know? But, if they pull some chicanery come October/November, well, I just might have to.

Randal: Congress is a bunch of cowards; there's no getting around that. But hopefully enough Republicans would also vote to nullify the FCC vote. If the NRA and the American Family Association -- among others -- make enough noise, some Republicans might listen to them.

It's getting harder to tell our mainstream "media" from Pravda, and this FCC vote will just make everything worse.

To say that Congress is a bunch of cowards is very nearly an understatement... I know, I know, they don't have the numbers in the Senate, and the Republicans kill whatever they try to do with parliamentary procedures and by sticking with the party line so the Dems can't get enough votes... but I find it absolutely disgusting that they keep giving Bush his war money at the expense of so many other things it could be used for. And now they obviously don't think it's a good thing for diversity in the mainstream media.

Heck if President Gas and his buddy VP are so much in favor of this, and the FCC is doing it, how on earth could anybody POSSIBLY BELIEVE there is now such a thing as a "liberal media"? "Liberal media" my ass.

Snave: It's true that there aren't enough Democrats for Congress to just automatically get everything they want. But Republicans seem to have more clout than Democrats even though they're not the majority any more. Republicans push for what they want, they work together and come up with strategies and they pull obscure rules out of their hats whenever it suits them. Democrats, I don't know what they do except sit there and let themselves be walked on and called names. I guess they think it's worth it for all the perks and high salaries they get.

This will certainly put the final nail in the coffin of that "liberal media."

Another step to one world government.

Consolidate the media into one main propaganda voice and thus the mind control begins.

There is a a web site that is collecting sigs for congress to tell them to change the laws I know the two outnumbered dems on the FCC committee have been apoplectic for a long time. And Kevin Martin well there is something about his young entitled face that just makes me want to slap the white off it.

www.freepress.net

I got an email from them , they need us to speak up. And we shall, Dodd's filabusterAction the other day - stopping the FISA bill which carried immunity give me hope. Geeze that guy after the campaign - He ought to be Majority leader in the Senate - the dance may have been coreographed, but Reid and Pelosi are not giving the populist Dems any reason what so ever to respect this party. And yes reality dictates both parties accept corporate donations (until we have publically funded elections) BUT the Dems had better start taking from Consumer oriented, ethical corporations or this party is truly toast.

They had better realize there is a huge , Green Constituency and some serious civil liberites and consumer advocates out here.

Oh man Martin makes me want to slap the white off of his face. The two dems on the FCC committee have been apoplectic for a few yrs now, but hopelessly outnumbered.

The dems had better realize that while they may be accepting corporate donations to keep up with the rethugs, that there are Corporations that are more ethical than others. If they do not stand up firmly as more Constitutionally oriented, civil rights oriented, Earth Conscious, (and ethonal IS NOT the way to go really) - that the party is toast. Neo Libs like Hillary are not gonna cut it.

Dodd did a wonderful thing in filabustering the immunity FISA bill - it may have been all coreographed, BUT damn. Lets hope that Dodd either gets a VP spot or is elected Majority Leader. The Dems need to show the people that "indeed there is real difference between them and the thugs"

freepress.net is collecting signatures for congress, so that the laws for media ownership are changed. Nothing less then are democracy is at stake NOTHING. Its a petition well worth signing AND people - wexlerwantshearings.com

HR 333 the Kucinich bill in the house judiciary - is over 103 thousand sigs since only friday -

sign it. email your friends even the Apolitical, and conservatives. We are reaching critical mass. There is PLENTY of time for this process, forget the outcome. As Robert Wexler says this is for history, and i agree and have posted on this too. The IRON is heating UP - we must strike. Be unified. and think positive.

Larry: Yup, pretty soon we'll all be getting our news from the same source: Pravda.

Proudprogressive: I'm on the mailing list for Freepress.net, so I've already signed that. That's a great organization; lots of information in their e-mails.

It's hard to tell what will happen with that telecom immunity bill next January. I hope the Dems can stand up for once. Bush says he'll veto any FISA bill that doesn't provide immunity for telecoms. So what? Let the Democrats dare him to veto it.

Yup, Kevin Martin sure is an asshole. The 2 Democrats on the FCC had some really scathing quotes in yesterday's article. And supposedly a lot of conservatives are against this FCC consolidation vote. Maybe Dems and Republicans could agree, for once, and vote to nullify the FCC vote. It's worth hoping for anyway.
