Osama bin Laden: Chickenhawk

This news item is probably the umpteenth story we've all seen about bin Laden — or one of those other interchangeable Mullahwipes — urging all “true believers” to join The Cause and become martyrs. Uh, “martyr” in this case means, of course, suicide bomber.

And yet all of these Koran-humpers are still alive. They themselves aren't willing to die — or take any risks at all for that matter — for their cause. They're just looking for a bunch of down-on-their-luck low-income flunkies to die for “the cause.” (Oh, and don’t forget about those Seventy-two Virginians they’ll meet in that special Martyrs’ Heaven.)

Why aren't tens of millions of Moslems — whether they're militant or moderate, whatever their beliefs are — just furious, ready to kick the shit out of these Islamic chickenhawks? Nobody has an ounce of respect for someone who's ready and anxious to fight to the last drop of somebody else’s blood.

As a veteran, I have nothing but contempt for the millions of keyboard warriors and Yellow Elephants who are so gung ho about the Iraqi invasion and are champing at the bit to invade Iran. Most of these sheltered little dainty pukes would turn into a quivering mass of jelly if somebody gave them a dirty look in a bar (let alone pointed a gun at them in a battlefield). And yet here they are, waving their flags, sporting their yellow ribbons, urging our demented fratboy “president” to keep “fighting,” and slandering everyone who disagrees with our warmongering “leaders.”

So, what does the average Moslem on the street think of bin Laden and all of his wannabes? It’s their sons and daughters who are being “recruited” for these suicide missions. Is there an Arabic word for chickenhawk? How about shitstain?

I say we start arranging some No Holds Barred Ultimate Fighting matches between prominent chickenhawks. Dick Cheney vs. Osama bin Laden — only on Pay Per View.

I've been disturbed for a long time about the lack of meaningful response from the Arab world since 9/11. Where was the outrage, the condemnation, the resolve to help stop these extremists? It was all lip service.

There are people who actually do "have an ounce of respect" for these asswipes, and they're called Arabs. They LOVED what bin Laden did. He's a fucking hero.

When their children blow themselves up, the parents are instant celebrities in their communities. They're proud of what their son or daughter did - the more Jews and/or Americans killed, the better.

I really did used to care about the plight of the Palestinians, but now, after seeing them dancing in the streets on 9/11, eh, not so much.

I loved the veteran's viewpoint you gave, Tom - I can just imagine fratboy getting a dirty look in a bar, or facing an enemy on the battlefield - hah! Without his codpiece and surrounded by real soldiers - oh, and the media - he'd lose his swagger real quick.

Aquinas Dad: Nothing profound. I was in the Navy during Vietnam, '69 to '73. I was off the coast of Vietnam on a Destroyer Escort for 6 months; before that I was stationed in California.

NOW: As long as you're here, I suggest you refrain from leaving nasty comments, like the two on that other post that I rejected. I have nothing against debate and disagreement, but it's pointless to just keep arguing the same thing over and over. And name-calling is out. I used to get a lot more "disagreeing" comments here than I do now. I haven't used any of the traffic exchange programs for a long time so I've probably fallen off a lot of people's radar.

So, comment here all you want as long as you stay somewhat civil. If you revert to name-calling -- well, you have a blog too, and 2 can play that game. I like to think I'm above that sort of thing, but the truth is I'm not.

Candace: That's true, there hasn't been much condemnation of 9/11 from the Arab Street. I think part of it is because a majority of Arabs thinks 9/11 was an inside job, that Arabs had nothing to do with it.

I can't imagine a majority in any of those countries having that kind of hatred, no matter what they think of our government. I've never been to any of the Arab countries, but I traveled all over Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan in the mid-'70s. Iranians were the least likeable, but still, there were a lot of friendly decent people everywhere I went.

Good post and I especially liked the part about the keyboard pukes who push a war they will never fight in.

LOL! Tom, it never occurred to me that bin Laden was cut from the same chickenhawk cloth as "Five-Deferrments" Cheney and "What National Guard?" Bush. Indeed, I wonder where's the appropriate outrage from the moderate Arab community against these delusional fruitcakes. It would make the difference, and indeed I have to wonder if it might have prevented Iraqmire. With enough of the Middle East saying "these people do not share our beliefs" and "we will help you find them", Bush would have had a hard time justifying invading. But I think you're right; right after it happened, a young man I knew from Egypt emailed me and swore up one side and down the other that Muslims (but not necessarily Arabs) did 9/11. He said "Islam stands for peace; we would not do this." It was too hard for him to understand, just as it's hard for Christians to understand Waco or Oklahoma City.

Mile High Pixie: I think it's a pretty widespread viewpoint in the Middle East that 9/11 was an inside job, or at least that the official story was covering something up. I forget where I read it, but I think about a third of Americans believe this and more like two thirds of Arabs believe it. I'm undecided myself; the official story doesn't add up but beyond that I don't know what to think.

But it's true, these chickenhawk warmongers are all the same, whether it's a crazed sheik or a 5-deferment vice president.

Crooks and Liars:

Call the Capitol switchboard at 202-225-3121. We need to let our representatives know that Bush cannot attack Iran. GW will not go away quietly as his disastrous term comes to an end. I think most of us believe Iran is the next target on Bush and Cheney’s to-do list. Kristol, the equally insane Ledeen (read this madness) and all his Neocon, warmongering pals are pushing the White House at every moment to make the attack happen.

Flood the Switchboards Before It's Too Late.

Larry: Thanks, I'll do that. Yup, Kristol is right up there (or maybe down is the right word) with Bush and Cheney on the contempt scale. I'm afraid you're right; Bush won't go quietly into the night.

Love this post, Tom. I'm a college professor and like to make students account for what they profess to believe in. In September 2006, I stopped by my university's Young Republicans fundraising booth...

ME: Have you signed up for military service? Or ROTC?

GOP FRAT BOY: Well, we're in college. We're supporting the troops from here.

ME: And *how* do you do that?

GOPFB: Uhh, well, we, uhh, support the troops.

ME: Which means what? Do you send care packages to soldiers? Do you sit at the VFW and listen to the war stories of folks who've just come home from Iraq and Afghanistan?

GOPFB: Uhhh...well...we support the troops.

ME: [walks off in disgust]

When Vietnam came calling, my dad signed up for the Army (his draft number was 2). Sure, he had "other priorities"...and so did 58,000+ other young men and women.

Miss Kitty: Thanks. I've seen your comments at Suzie's Blahg and Why Architects Drink, but I guess I never followed the link over to your blog. Interesting site.

I like your conversation with the Young Republican. I'm glad all he did was fumble and squirm; sometimes those people can get really hostile if they're backed into a corner like that. I used to comment at rightwing pro-war blogs, asking which branch of the military they served in, or what exactly they're doing to help the troops. They'd go ballistic; I'd get called names I haven't heard since boot camp. I don't bother doing that any more. Life's too short to get in a bunch of pissing contests.

Have you seen Operation Yellow Elephant? It's linked in my sidebar. Their whole theme is poking and prodding the people who "support" the war but haven't contributed anything to it.

Again, great post. I'll be back! (Mile High Pixie is my sister.)

Another really good one! I especially love the bar scene. Were those Seventy-two virgins the ones that were murdered by their own fathers or maybe stoned to death for showing an ankle?

And now for the chickenhawks. Osama and George are like the two sides of a coin. They were born on the other side of the world from one another but came from similar disfunctional background.

After it was clear that Bush was going to lie us into a war, I got curious as to "Who" the bad bin Laden was so I checked a biography on him out of the library.

He and George are actually very similar beside both of them being chickenhawks. Both were spoiled rich kids who were pretty much ignored by their fathers and both had problems with their mothers. Both men as boys competed with and tried to impress their fathers with their athletic skills and both became religious fanatics.

These two selfish, arrogant, emotionally insecure men went on to preemptively attack sovereign countries and are responsible for the deaths of many innocent people - but George has killed more.

I agree with you but I think we should isolate chickenhawks, war profiteers, and religious fanatics on an island some where and let them all kill one another.

I hadn't heard of Operation Yellow Elephant. I went and played there for a while and added it to my links. I just love it!

Kitchen Window Woman: That makes a lot of sense, that GWB and OBL have a lot in common; just 2 sides of the same coin. There are so many holes in the official 9/11 story, I have no idea what to believe. But I think Bush and bin Laden need each other; each one serves as the bogeyman so that the other can get more recruits and more followers.

Glad you like Operation Yellow Elephant.
