Can We Learn From China?

Now I’m not saying it’s right, but sometimes you've just gotta do what you gotta do.

If America ever took this approach, there'd be some dead motherfuckers in our corporate boardrooms and government “regulatory” offices. I’m just saying…

Wowzer. I guess that would be an interesting "incentive" to work harder.

Political Realm: Yup, that would be an incentive to be more honest and less greedy. I wouldn't really be in favor of that approach here, but the story had that feelgood quality, like when the bad guy gets killed at the end of the movie.

Holly: Good point. They're our landlords. Sorry Brownie and all you Enron executives, we have to do this, our landlords told us to.

China is financing the Bush national debt, buying up companies in the U.S big and small, and stealing technology and knocking it off as their own.

This is Bush's partnership with the devil.

Larry: You've got it. China is accomplishing economically what they could never do militarily, and we're walking right into it. There'll be all sorts of side effects to this.

J. Marquis: LOL. Yup, that's a barrel of oil they've got us over.

Hey, I wonder how things would have turned out if we did business in South and Central America like China is doing business in Africa.

I'm not condoning China's actions in Africa, but it is an interesting thought.

PragueTwin: I guess I haven't followed China's business in Africa. I know they do a lot of trade there but I don't know any specifics.

China is doing nothing our Allies haven't done here or the rest of the world.

Every time a 3rd world country starts buying property here people panic that they own us. years ago it was the Arabs, years before that it was the Japanese.

While it has always been a known (but unspoken) fact that the Dutch, the British, the Canadians and the Germans own 100 times more of the US then China, Japan, the Middle East and the rest of the world combines.

As for the guy getting shot. He was a scape goat! We don't need to shoot corporate executives and crooked government officials to get them to tow the line (though it sounds like fun) we need to enforce existing laws (like Elliot Spitzer did) and bring a new concept into our legal system-

JUSTICE

Erik: From what I've read, China and Japan (to a lesser extent) have us by the shorthairs. Not because they own property here but because they literally own our huge debts. I don't claim to be any sort of financial expert but that's my understanding. If either of those countries ever call in those debts, we're fucked.

I agree it wasn't right for that Chinese official to be executed, but like I said in an earlier comment, it just has the feelgood quality, like in the movies when the villain gets killed. And I predict that if corporate crime in this country keeps going unpunished there will be some mob justice carried out. Just guessing.

All Due respect I've been hearing that about Japan for over 20 years. They were talking about what we owe to Japan and what could happen if they come to collect blah blah blah

I've grown to think that there is something else going in the background. Like all this money thing is just talk and there might be another form of clout like a Military Threat or some sort of Infastructure control that the US is hanging over their heads.

Otherwise my thinking says you don't let yourself get in this situation.

Erik: I really don't know if there's something else going on in the background or not. But in any case our huge national debt is a very serious problem, whether or not there's any truth to the scare stories about Japan or China "calling in the debt."
