Britain’s New Leadership: “I’m Staying Away from the Village Idiot”

That poor Tony Blair. He had so much promise, such a bright future. And then he fell in with the wrong crowd. It happens. Get mixed up with the village idiot and the local wackjob, and by the time you’ve discovered how toxic they are, you’ve been painted into a corner and your credibility is shot.

Britain’s new International Development Secretary, Douglas Alexander, and Foreign Office Minister Mark Malloch Brown are both determined not to be brought down by the Bush Curse. Brown said that Britain needs to “nurture a wider range of allies” — a polite way of saying “keep your distance from Chimpy.”

Malloch Brown said: “For better of worse, it is very unlikely that the Brown/Bush relationship is going to go through the baptism of fire and therefore be joined together at the hip like the Blair/Bush relationship was.”

Douglas Alexander said: “In the 20th century a country’s might was too often measured in what they could destroy. In the 21st, strength should be measured by what we can build together.”

Sorry Dumbya, your most loyal bitch has finally dumped you. What's a scorned furher to do?

It must suck to have your legacy be "Bush's lapdog", but Blair brought it on himself. The man would have sucked up to Augusto Pinochet, if he'd been president of the United States.

Kvatch: Yes, Blair definitely brought this on himself. He allowed himself to fall in with the village idiot and now he's paying the price.

Blair is more interested his newly anointed job of Mideast Peace Envoy or some such nonsense.

Its more like Mideast War Envoy since his job will be to incite Israel to attack Iran.

I love what Douglas Alexander said. It has a positive ring to it. Would that we could find several here in the states with such visionary wisdom.

As for Blair, what is is the poor Pixie going to do? He wasted his fairy sparkles on a nasty American troll. History is sure to turn him into a toad.

Larry: I didn't know about Blair's new job. Mideast Peace/War Envoy -- like our own Department of "Defense" that spends most of its budget on stationing U.S. soldiers in every corner of the world.

Kitchen Window Woman: Yes, it would be nice if a few American leaders could develop this same wisdom. And Blair has only himself to blame for this. It's one thing if you're in 9th grade and get influenced by the wrong people, but Blair is a grownup.

It seems to me that since Bush and Blair took their money and most Troops out of Afghanistan and into Iraq, they have caused a build up of Al Qaeda operating capability to be at a level not seen since just before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Now we learn that Pakistan is the place to be. Most of Al Qaeda are in the mountains their, preparing to send attackers back into America and England. We still have not caught the people responsible for the attack that supposedly justifies all this.

The British cannot afford to let go of America's hand or all is lost in Afghanistan and Pakistan, not to mention the UN.

Can you see America and England separated in this mess. You would have a free pass for Pakistan and their neighbors to be over ran by Al Qaeda.

Let's Talk: It's too bad Bush and Blair both diverted their resources from hunting for al Qaeda to invading Iraq. I don't know exactly who's pulling Bush's strings, but Blair screwed himself by going along with Bush's schemes.

Bush/Cheney's entire rationale for invading Iraq and attacking the Constitution at home has been that this will keep us safe from terrorists. And now al Qaeda is stronger than ever and Pakistan/Afghanistan are more vulnerable than ever.

Once Blair gets done stirring up the entire Mideast for war, he can shuttle off to some hideaway, and count those neocon oil dollars he will be collecting.

Larry: Yeah, I wouldn't doubt it. I always tended to think of Blair as somebody who made some bad decisions and ended up getting caught in the middle. But it takes 2 to tango, so in a way Blair is probably just as sleazy and self-absorbed as the neocons who took him along for a ride.

Blair's parents must have been wringing their hands for the past few years. *sigh* [voiceover] If you don't talk to your Prime Minister about Bush, who will?

Mile High Pixie: LOL. I'm sure that's just what Blair's parents were thinking. "Oh dear, that Bush boy is going to be a terrible influence on our Tony, I just know it."
