Forget all those sanitized politically correct history books that we were all brainwashed with. It turns out our current president is also a historian, and he's been kind enough to share his inside knowledge and expertise.

Oh for Pete's sake.....can't you let it go for once. That's not what he said and had you listened to it, you'd know it.
Jeez, simmer down. So I exaggerate. I know it's wrong to keep making fun of our limited "president," but it's just too much fun. And you've gotta admit that speech of his was pretty stupid. He's just asking to be ridiculed and satirized.
I about puked today when I saw headlines saying stuff like "Bush compares War on Terror to Revolutionary War"
And Jenn, he may not have said what Tom posted (it's called sarcasm) he did say this today:
“Today, we’re fighting a new war to defend our liberty and our people and our way of life,” said Bush, standing in front of Washington’s home and above a mostly frozen Potomac River.
“And as we work to advance the cause of freedom around the world, we remember that the father of our country believed that the freedoms we secured in our revolution were not meant for Americans alone.”

yeah, freedom for everyone else in the world except Americans...
Suspend habeas corpus, defy FISA, sneak a peak at Americans, read our email, monitor our web traffic, etc.
In otherwords, Bush is taking our freedom and giving to others around the world.
Only Bush isn't spreading freedom, he's spreading death and chaos which allows his corporate war profiteer cronies to steal our tax dollars.
Where's Bin Laden? Taliban is still running Afghanistan. Poppy production is at an all time high. Al Qaeda is even stronger now.
And 650,000 Iraqis have died. And sure they were free to pick their government. So what did they pick? An Islamic Republic aligned with Iran.
We continually outsource our jobs and industry to China were workers toil in near slave labor conditions.
Is that freedom?
It's all just a bunch of bullshit rhetoric meant to tug at the heart strings of the sycophants that still buy Bush's bullshit.

PoliShifter: Excellent comment; I can't think of anything to add. I can't believe Bush said all that shit. His speech sounded like a skit from Saturday Night Live or The Daily Show.

During Bush's comments, that sound we all may have heard in the background at Mr. Vernon was George Washington thrashing about wildly in his tomb.
Bush needs to learn the meaning of "freedom". Polishifter makes some great points. The kind of "freedom" he is advocating for the rest of the world appears to be the freedom to agree with him and to follow our rules, or else get attacked.
In May of 1999, when Bush was being made fun of at the website gwb.com, he said "There ought to be limits to freedom", and he tried to sue the website operator. I'm sure he would still love to limit our freedom of speech, at least.
I am sure all the Bush apologists out there are tired of hearing about that quote, just like they're probably exasperated by "A dictatorship would be a heck-of a lot easier, as long as I'm dictator"... Or maybe they're pretty damned tired of what Bush said a couple of months after "9-11": "But all in all, it's been a great year for Laura and me." His quotes are very telling as to what kind of person he is. Not presidential timber by my book, anyway.
But if his apologists stop worshipping him long enough to pay attention to what Bush says and does, they will be dumbfounded. If they are honest, they will admit that they question his so-called leadership, his motives, and his mental status. If they care about the future of America and of their political party, they will do what they can to help get him out of the White House before he drags us into more wars and destroys the world. He isn't going to stop until he does, because it is not in his mental make-up to cease such activities. Our best hope is to get him out of the White House and away from our "nucular" arsenal before his term ends, because simply holding our collective breath until then might not do the trick.
Snave: Yeah, I bet George Washington and the rest of the Founding Fathers were turning in their graves during Bush's speech. I never knew what website that was that Bush tried to shut down. I remember hearing about that; I'm surprised that didn't cost him more votes in the 2000 election. I thought maybe the website was GeorgeWBush.org, which went defunct about a year ago (I still have them linked under "Comedy"). I think Whitehouse.org is put out by the same people; they're also linked under the Comedy heading. They have some hilarious imitations of Bush speeches. I'm sure Bush would just love to have those people arrested and sent to Gitmo.
