Elliott Abrams: The Neocons’ Favorite Neocon

Unless you closely followed the Iran-Contra scandal twenty years ago, Elliott Abrams probably isn’t a household name. But he’s been a rightwing warmongering influence on our government for a long time. To paraphrase a song title: Still a Douchebag After All These Years.

While other neocon thinktankers are repenting and dropping like flies, Abrams is still staying the course. He’s the number two person at the National Security Council, and he’s still tirelessly promoting American dominion over the rest of the world.

Abrams initially got his influence by marrying into a prominent rightwing family, and using his new family connections very effectively. A San Francisco Examiner columnist used to call him Little Elliott.

Wanna hear a hilarious euphemism? This is one for the records. The Bush Administration has wreaked havoc all over the Middle East, spent hundreds of billions of dollars, killed hundreds of thousands of people and alienated everybody in the world except Israel. And what are the neocons calling this? The “Democracy Movement.”

I suppose by giving it a noble-sounding name like the "Democracy movement", they are reassured in knowing that if anyone disagrees with them, they can say, "What, you don't like Democracy?"

It seems like everything they do is so completely calculated, particularly in their manipulation of language, set up so it makes it tough to put negative spin on it and so it is easily usable to fool voters.

What a bunch of slimy people.

What's even sadder is the economic and military support we gave Saddam back in the 80's. It seems most people forgot about that. He was our "buddy" back then. Same thing with the Taliban back in the 80's as well. Now we're paying for that support we gave them.

Snave: Yeah, that’s a euphemism alongside of “right to life,” which means that anyone who’s pro-choice is anti-life. Anybody who disagrees with the neocons must be against democracy. Yup, those people are pretty slick.

Mike: You’re right. We support these people and buddy up to them, and then something changes and we have to nuke them. The former strongman of Panama, Manuel Noriega, is another example. It seems our “leaders” never learn anything.

Kvatch: Yup, the “Democracy Movement.” I think I’ll pass on joining that one. Alice would be turning in her grave :)

Here is another hilarious euphamism. Tony Snow just said that it is not a civil war or a battle for territory, but rather Iraqi's are "expressing their differences."

Lizzy: Thanks. I'll add your blog to my links too. I've been there a couple of times through Snave's comment section.

Prague Twin: "Expressing their differences" ROFLMAO. Euphemisms are getting funnier and more creative all the time.

I live Snave's comments about the spindakkahs. The difference between Dems and Repubs pales in comparison between the neocon agenda versus keeping our democracy. America's facing its most dangerous moment since WWII - will we break free from neocon control or will we be manipulated into becoming a satrapy of Israel?
