Ode To A Great Country

This is a very moving speech by Keith Olbermann — a tribute to America. It’s an excellent description of our ideals, the cesspool we’ve degenerated into, and whether we will one day take our country back. Here is the video. Here is the written transcript. It's heartbreaking. It's infuriating.

Fuck you very much, George Johnny Walker Bush.

Yup, Olbermann did a nice job on that one. I've got that and him showing what's left of the Bill of Rights in this post here. Barack Obama complemented him on them last night, too.

Dustin: Thanks for the link. I just checked out that other video at your blog. Very stirring. Olbermann sure does put his finger on what's happening to us.

"Olbermann hands GWB his ass on a plate."

Well said.

After watching the second video, I have to say this -- which does pertain more to the first -- that while I do not know whether or not this act is necessary, nor do I think anyone (aside from God, which is a "maybe") can know if it is necessary -- it would require the ability to compare alternate universes, one with and one without, side-by-side and watching all the events unfold -- I do know, absolutely and unequivocably, that we will regret this. Travesties of justice will happen. They have already happened.

Will America recover? That's another issue entirely. I hope so, but the debate as to whether the terrorists or Bush himself is the more dangerous is a difficult one. The terrorists do pose a very serious threat. They want to destroy what America stands for more completely than either the Republicans, with their dictator-like leanings, or the Democrats, with their socialist preferences, do. However, the Republicans and the Democrats are in a much better position to succeed at that destruction.

As for Habeus Corpus...I believe in America. I believe in Americans' ability to act for themselves. America may have not always had the "right to bear arms," but we still kicked England's ass. And if we have to kick the ass of our government, we will. We'll survive. Many will die. America very well may be destroyed in the act, and we'll certainly lose the America that we've always known. But...hey, it's better us than them?

I do believe we'll pull ourselves out of this. We've done many things to our shame in our history. We'll undoubtably do many more. Yet, we've come through it. It could happen yet again.

More foul-mouthed anti-Bush diatribes! Standard faire with America-bashing leftists, it appears...Olbermann's a joke anyway!

Stephanie: It’s true that travesties of justice have already happened and will happen again. I hope we recover from this current crisis and that our descendants will be reading about this, in the same category as the Japanese internment during WWII and the Alien and Sedition Acts of the 1700s. I know the terrorist threat is real, but stripping away the Constitution and ignoring the Geneva Convention is not the answer. Every recent terrorist plot that’s been foiled, has been prevented by good old fashioned police and detective work; not by spying on people or locking them away without a trial. I share your optimism that we’ll pull ourselves out of this. We have some disgraceful chapters in our history (as every country does) and we’ve always survived.

Donald: “More foul-mouthed anti-Bush diatribes!” Hey, what the fuck are you talking about :) Yes, the vitriol is being cranked up as the election approaches. Both sides are doing this. I assume you’ve found this site through BlogMad or Blog Explosion, and you’ve seen both sides cranking up the foul language and mean jokes. I’m not saying it’s right, but…

J. Marquis: Yup, KO’s stuff is powerful indeed.

Dustin: Yeah, I wish more people were concerned about this.
