GeorgeWBush.org: RIP
Anyone know what happened to this website? GeorgeWBush.org was an excellent political forum. Lots of great posts, discussions, hilarious Bush jokes, etc. If you click on the link now, you get a message that the site has been taken offline permanently.
Websites and come and go, of course, but in today’s climate you have to wonder. Were they shut down? Were they intimidated by the
Their “going away” message just seems ominous, but maybe I’m just paranoid. What, come on, it can’t happen here.
The screen also has a field where you can fill in your name and e-mail address, and the webmaster will let you know when or if they set up the forum again. Is this for real, or is it a sting operation by the
“Paranoia strikes deep. Into your life it will creep.” Those words have a lot more truth now than they ever did in the ‘60s when they were written.

Dropped over from BlogMad! Good stuff!
I have been fortunate as of late to jump to a readership of sometimes 700+ per day, and the site meter is an ominous site for me as well. I know your fear. DOD, DHHS, Unknown,Senate Office,Pentagon, State Dept.. I cannot even begin to tell the military bases, Nasa, Defense contractors, you name it, that have "pinged" my site since my "subversive film" American Excess. I have an old article in archives, "Big Brother is Blogging". I want to believe these government hits are simply employees, "Pentagon" = staffer, etc. But, well, the thought is there.

P_Jordan_Sr.: Damn, 700+, that's impressive! Mine has gone up since I joined BlogMad, but nowhere near that. I get the occasional visit from something that seems ominous, or "Blocked Referrer." But I just figure traffic is traffic; the more the merrier. I doubt if I have a large enough audience to attract any concern from the Powers That Be.
GeorgeWBush.org was really a great site. I'm guessing they closed voluntarily (for whatever reason) but there just seemed something ominous about their final message. And these days you can't be too paranoid.
I wasn't alive during the McCarthy Era when someone like Reagan could publically refuse to deal rat out his Hollywood pals while singing like a songbird behind closed doors; today can't be that bad, but then the technology changes . . .

reading that, it also says it is part of "chickenhead productions" and is hosted on the same NS servers as chickenhead.com (with godaddy)
if you go to that page, you will see a link for georgewbush.org BUT, it's 2004.georgewbush.org/

Aurelius: Yeah, today’s technology makes everything better and worse. There are millions of people bashing the government and/or taking political action online. And most of us aren’t being spied on or harassed (at least not knowingly).
I did a post last Spring about Perkins and his book. I haven’t actually read the book; I just read several articles about it and an interview with Perkins.
Yup, that’s Trent Reznor. You’re the second person to recognize it. I guess it’s time for me to change the lyrics.
Mike V.: Thanks for the info. For awhile the GeorgeWBush.org URL was being redirected to Whitehouse.org, so I assume those 2 sites are connected. That site doesn’t have a forum, but the humor and political slant are the same. We probably should enjoy their tongue-in-cheek articles while we still can.

When my site was extremely active (updated everyday) I got a lot of hits from government agencies too.
I got one from the ATF.
Most of the people are just workers reading blogs.
I think the site was shut down...There have been reports of this going around alot. And it is not just websites, the White House has been constantly pressuring people to soften everything up.,
It is quite disgusting and pathetic.

Ahhhh! Buffalo Springfield! What a great band they were. The band I'm in does a version of "For What It's Worth" that is fun to play but comes nowhere near doing justice to the original. We mainly do it, because like you said, the lyrics are as potent today as they were almost 40 years ago!
Snave: Yeah, they were great. In the Northeast (where I'm from originally) I don't think they were much of a hit. "For What It's Worth" was the only song I knew of by them. Later when I went to California, I heard their Greatest Hits album and I was blown away. They totally laid the groundwork for Crosby/Stills/Nash/Young, the Eagles, Poco...

Just to let you know Tom, John Wooden closed the georgewbush.org forum. It was a business decision on his part, apparently he was getting too much traffic on thewhitehouse.org site. I believe that there were other reasons behind the shut down, there had also been a lot of infighting as of late. I myself very rarely posted there any longer. The online contact form was set up for the members to get together if and when another forum emerges. Rather sad in a way, I was a member from the original old forum back in 2001. The internet archive used to store the data from the forum but even that is no longer there. Very unfortunate as there was alot of information stored on that forum. I recall a few years back that the Library Of Congress had requested permission to record the site in their archives. Now I'm not sure if they had made a mistake and meant to contact the official site rather than the officious site. LOL..can you imagine the future generations reading that forum? Well...so long, take care and happy travels.

Sara: Thanks for your information. It's sad the forum won't be there any more, but at least we'll still have whitehouse.org. I sometimes link to their articles in my posts -- they're really a riot. Yes, it would've been funny if the Library of Congress had record georgewbush.org in its archives.
